I'm a home pd patient and just received my delivery of dialysate for September. I had to sign the HIIPA advisory electronically on a handset similar to the ones FedEx uses to scan packages. The driver said Baxter is planning to have delivery drivers scan the patient's inventory and build the next order from that data instead of having us phone in. They already know they aren't able to adjust for changes in proportion but they figure they'll just find a way to deal with it. What horseshit! I'm seeing my neph this afternoon at my clinic. We're going to discuss how the hell a delivery driver with a scanner is NOT going to take over management of my treatment.

Elected to stay on hemo 01/2013. (10.5 hours per week instead of 8 hours every night? No contest!)

Today I will not worry unless the animals start lining up 2 by 2.

OMG,
 No Way. I HATE BAXTER WITH THE PASSION!!!! They cant do that because you technically use something different each time. You may not always use the yellows (1.5s), you may not always be manuals. You might go on vacation and then use manuals or only order a little.. Im for NOT calling in a order, which I hate.

Wow!...

Baxter seem to be getting a bit of a reputation for not being Customer Friendly... Thankfully here, they're great to deal with... They had the Extraneal problem which took over a year to get on top of which resulted in fortnightly, instead of monthly delivery (whether we liked it or not!), but apart from that, they're great!...

Not too sure I'd like to leave it to the driver to get it right about reordering, though... They've enough to contend with, and I admit to being a bit of a control freak where my mum's care is concerned... Mind you, there are two drivers (Jim and Eric) who I know I could trust TOTALLY to do the ordering right because they're very aware of the importance of getting this right... Still rather do it myself if it were any other driver, though...

We can only call in orders... Have to admit, I'd like to be able to email it... That way, I'd have a written trail, but to be fair, on the only occasion that we were left short of something, Baxter sent it by courier within a couple of hours....

Hope you get sorted out with a system that suits you... Renal Failure and it's associated 'joys' is stressful enough as it is without adding more difficulties to the mix!...

Baxter is really good here in Oz.  The girls who ring me for my order are helpful and friendly, the guy who delivers is a gem.  May it all stay that way.  I was thinking on Monday that here in Australia we are really spoilt in the health care area.

The Baxter folks that I deal with here in Colorado are also great. Have not had an issue with them in over a year.

My regular Baxter driver is fantastic. Customer service is okay once you get past the initial hold period on the phone. (If my call is so important to them why don't they hire more phone reps?) Tech Support for cycler issues is solid.

This plan to auto-generate orders is a new wrinkle. I'm guessing they plan to scan the depleted inventory and ship exactly what they find I've used. The problem is what I use this month may not be what I need next month.

We'll see how it works for them when they get here and can't find anything to scan. I hate being evil but... nah, actually I love it!

I love how you think!!  Yep, I'd be moving stuff to work it so I get exactly what Greg wants and needs, not what they THINK he needs.

I'm confused. They will scan what you have left then get stuff off the truck? Or they will scan a full inventory and order for next month? What do you mean by changes in proportion? I would think if they don't give you what you need, call them and say you need whatever sent right away. That will cost more and lead them to work on things.

It may not mean anything, but I asked my PD nurse (who's generally on top of things) about this today and she hadn't heard about any proposals to do this. She said it didn't seem feasible but it was concerning enough that she said she was going to call some insiders and try to get the real scoop. If I hear anything I'll post it.

Jeanna, a change in proportion is when you adjust your own prescription based on your needs. Sometimes I use a 4 and a 2 but other times I use two 2's or a 4 and a 1. It depends on my weight, BP and edema. No two months usage are exactly alike. I can see them making a delivery and scanning it into their system to set a baseline. The next month they'd come in and scan what's left and their software would tell them what to set off that day. It would work just like a soft drink company restocking a grocery store.

Willis, my pd nurse didn't know anything about it either. She also wasn't at all surprised.
