Man pores Bleach in Dialysis Machine

LEXINGTON, S.C. —
A judge has set a $525,000 bond for a man who authorities say poured bleach into the water tanks used for kidney dialysis machines as revenge against his employer.
A spokesman for
Fresenius Medical Services
says the bleach was found during one of several daily checks before any patients were harmed.
Investigators say 49-year-old Donald Foster III was suspended from his job as equipment manager on July 2, and broke in a few days later. He has been charged with attempted murder and second-degree burglary.
Authorities say patients could have died if clinic workers hadn't found the bleach in the water.
Foster asked the judge Thursday to let him out of jail because he is a single parent with a young daughter. Prosecutors asked that no bond be set.

I'm sick of people endangering of killing others because they're mad at someone else (like people who shoot up their ex's workplace). Why couldn't he key the employer's car or just get a life like a normal person? Ick.

I read what he did but can't remember. He shouldn't of done what he did so odviously he wasn't thinking about his young daughter and being a single parent at the time.

Noahvole,I agree to disagree. This man put all patients in danger. Now wonder his behind was fired. Why would he put bleach in the water knowing that these machines are to clean the patients’ blood? Why would he think of doing something like that if he was concerned about the patients? It was not the patients that fired him, it was the manager. Why not do something to the manager’s car or office? I believe he was mad at one of the patients for something that caused him to be fired so he decided to get back at all patients and put bleach in the water. I don’t believe it was at the manager. Like someone said, it’s hard to get fired from a hospital, especially, a dialysis center unless you do something unlawful. This man knew exactly what he was doing. Also he knew that doing this will delay patients treatments if not harm them. Now he wants mercy because he’s a single father, well he should have thought about that when he was trying to harm other children’s single mother or father.
Sent him to jail to swell on what he did and how serious he actions was. He is not a child. He knew actually what he was doing and the purpose of his actions.
Just my two cents

Dailysis patient for since 1999 and still kicking it strong. I was called for a transplant but could not get it due to damage veins from extremely high blood pressure. Have it under control now, on NxStage System but will receive dailysis for the rest of my life. Does life sucks because of this. ABOLUTELY NOT! Life is what you make it good, bad, sick, or healthy. Praise God I'm still functioning as a normal person just have to take extra steps.

Okay Noahvale, I hope it's what you're saying; anyhoo, as Rerun stated, what if the staff that check the machines but the machines on mute? I'm just saying.
Thanks!

This news story is one of the many reasons I was an in-center self care hemo dialysis patient. I setup the machine I was going to use and did all of the checks myself to verified the cleanliness. Then I would do my vitals, insert the needles, and hook myself on for treatment. The only thing I couldn't do was administer the medications.
If anyone is concern of the quality of there center, I would recommend in-center self care.

He was apparently suspended or fired for asking patients for their prescription painkillers.

It just goes to show that no matter WHO it is or how much you trust someone, even if they are a PROFESSIONAL; that you have to take responsibility for YOUR treatments and that YOU have to check and double check everything.
After all, it is YOUR LIFE and it is only a job to the Techs and Nurses.
I know that by the 3rd shift when I go to the center, most of the techs and nurses have already put in over 12 hours that day. They ask the questions, but just run through the motions and don't much pay attention to you. They are too tired from dealing with all the other things all day long.
