CHATFIELD, Minn. Ron Sample has always been there for his mother. Now, Katherine Sample wants to do something for him.
Nothing small -- just find him a kidney.
The 82-year-old Chatfield woman says her son takes care of everything for her -- from lawn-mowing to fixing the house -- and this is the only way she could repay him."
Ron Sample's kidneys are failing, and he spends much of his time sleeping. Doctors told the 62-year-old man last summer he would need dialysis within a year.
His mother asked her granddaughter to make fliers asking people to consider becoming living donors. That idea grew into a campaign stretching across state lines into convenience stores, grocery stores, laundries and filling stations.
She also placed ads in newspapers and a weekly shopper. Callers are referred to Mayo Clinic, which tests for potential matches. No matches have been found yet.
