Yesterday I did my PET/Adequacy tests.  Because of the expanding number of PD patients and the non-expanding floor space of my PD clinic, I shared the room with a lovely young man doing the same tests (I think).  He was probably in his thirties agewise.

He seemed to be collecting "Strange places to do an exchange".  He had done one on the back of an elephant.  The PD nurses were interested in handwashing techniques on the back of an elephant.  Another attempt was at the top of the Empire State building, but because of the suspicious bag of liquid he was carrying he was thought he might be planning a terrorist attack and was not allowed.  There were other exchanges and attempted exchanges which were quite fascinating, but the one which sticks in my mind the most was the exchange at LAX after a fifteen hour flight from Australia.  Because of the no-liquids-on-flights rule he couldn't do an exchange on the flight and had to do the exchange in the toilets at Los Angeles.  I think I would prefer the elephant to the toilets at LA.

On the other hand he had never met anyone who had had peritonitis.

I had a very informative and enjoyable day.

OK - my places to do PD.
1) riding in a car
2) driving a truck
3) at a motorcycle rally in the parking lot with 100s of bikers
4) at a camp ground (number of times)
5) at a restaurant parking lot
6) in a hospital bath room
7) at my kids house (bathroom, bedroom)
8) at a friends house

I tease the clinic nurses and tell them I'm going to rig up a pole to my bike and do an exchange while riding 70 miles an hour down the interstate.

Our friend in Israel told us about Bedouins doing exchanges in their tents. Now that would be a sight!

Grumpy, need to figure out how to attach it to the flag pole, that would do it!  :rofl;

Grumpy-1  Which interstate did you have in mind?  I'd turn out to cheer you on if I was anywhere close!  Course I'd be wearing a rain suit and full face mask, but I'd definitely cheer!   :cheer:   :cheer:

my belief is that the real reason that he couldn't do it on a flight had nothing to do with the security and fluid thing.  I think that it was probably because they just didn't want him to do it on board.  I traveled years ago before all the security stuff and there always seemed to be the implication that I couldn't  do it on there for hygiene reasons/other people's attitudes etc.  suggestion was made that I did it in the toilet!

Joe - I know I can put a flag pole on the bike, Nice idea.  Instead of a flag, then use the dialysis bag.  Alright - next where to put the drain bag.  I don't think dragging it on the ground will work.  - bungee cord it to the saddle bag - Now I got it.

MaryJoe - look for me on I95 somewhere between Washington DC and Richmond VA.  I live in Fredericksburg VA.   Now we have it all figured out - here I come !   Maybe I can get someone to take a picture or two and I'll post it.  Grumpy

I think I'd drop the drain bag in my saddlebag, or the frunk on my Spyder. That would keep it out of the way.

Joe - how do you like your spider?  A close friend sold me his Harley and got a spider.  He really enjoys it.  And it sure gathers attendion where ever we ride.  Grumpy

What's the problem.....just cut the bag off the tubing and let it drain in the wind, it's just a little bit more than sugar water.  Maybe you should zip tie the tubing somewhere on the lower part of the bike, eh?

JLM - Hence the rain suit!

grumpy - That's a little far north of my usual haunts although I will be heading northwards around Dec 22, maybe I could reroute east from I-75.  On second thought, if you're going to cut the bag loose, maybe I'll just stick to my usual itinerary.

I love it Grumpy! I started out on a Harley Road Glide and the wife had a Dyna Low Rider. She was never comfortable with the bike and scared to death she was going to dump it and not be able to get it back up. The Spyder has removed all of that concern and gotten her back into the wind. She actually looks forward to going for a ride now. And yes, they do draw a lot of attention everywhere we go. I had 4 guys come over to me in the parking lot of the Dialysis center last week, took me 20 minutes to talk to them all and answer their questions.  :rofl;

 :urcrazy;  I would think doing an exchange on an airplane would be a disaster with all those germs and virus in the air from other passengers.  I can see the Stewardess, now, passing out masks.  I would think the rest room exchange would take so long that the other passengers would have a fit.

MaryJoe  - I promise I won't "cut the bag", however that is a good idea for the idiots that tailgate at 70mph -  Wonder what they'd think if their windshield was covered by yellow water????  :rofl;

Joe - did you keep the road glide and get the spider for your wife?  or do you share the spider?

Grumpy, I'm with you on handling the tailgaters. That would be interesting  :rofl;

And I got rid of the Road Glide when she decided to sell the Dyna. We now have two Spyders, hers is red, mine is blue.

 :rofl;  I love the tailgater tale.  Reminds me of an Angel game I went to a few decades ago.  A guy I knew got free tickets behind home plate.  We picked up a rich guy who's dad owned a vitamin factory by Angel stadium.  We parked at the factory, and walked into the stadium.  It was awesome.  On the way back, this guy, drunk, hurled on the 405 freeway outside my car window.  You should have seen the cars behind us swerve to get out of the way.

Whamo -  Great story.  Great visual thoughts of drivers weaving all over the road.  Wonder how many wreaks it caused.  Out here in VA (outside DC) that would have caused at least a 20 car pile up....   Grumpy
