The patient, the baby and the donor - October 2010

Tomorrow afternoon my SO goes for his consult with the surgeon to discuss removing his parathyroid glands. Anyone have any suggestions on things we should ask?

I've searched through old posts and didn't see anything too incredibly recent on it. Wondering if anyone has had theirs removed laproscopically? How bad is the scarring? SO gets keloid scars now every time he has a cut. This is new, never happened until after the ESRD diagnosis. And he is incredibly self conscious about the ones on his arms from his fistula surgeries, and he can cover those up. I know I am worried for him having to deal with a keloid along his neck. Hoping the doc we see can do it laproscopically or in some way to hide the scars.

Desert Dancer had hers removed recently.  Perhaps you could PM her or search through her posts.  I'm sure she has posted about it.  Here's a link to her thread about it...

Thanks MooseMon I didn't see her post in my search results. I'm glad she posted a picture, that's somewhat reassuring. I bookmarked the page on my phone so I can show it to the surgeon later this afternoon. Even that would produce a hideous keloid on my SO but it's not as big as big as what the pictures on the Internet showed of the actual surgery. I'm hoping my SO will have similar results in the energy and sleep departments.

I did a search, too, and got no results.  Fortunately, I remembered her post and around when she posted it, so I searched all of her postings and eventually found it.  Oddly, I had just done a search over on Home Dialysis Central for Dr. Agar's postings on "muscle wastage", but the search yielded nothing.  But I was almost positive it was there, so I just looked through all of the posts, and there it was, titled "muscle wastage".  I have no idea why the search yielded "no results".  Isn't that weird?  I must be doing something wrong. ::)

His appointment got rescheduled for Tuesday. The doctor got called into emergency surgery. Bummed because he was hoping to have it done and be recovered by June 1st when we travel out of town for a wedding.

I'm sorry to hear that.  That's a bit of bad luck.

Yeah I will be pretty bummed if they make him schedule it before the trip, not going to lie. I haven't been on a vacation since March 2008. I think I am a bit overdue. It's only a long weekend, but I've been looking forward to it for months.
