Attn Kidney Recipients:  You are invited to attend a free patient information session on life after a kidney transplant that will take place on May 24, 2012 in Toronto.
 
The details are:
 
Date: May 24, 2012
Time: 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM
Address: Keenan Research Centre in the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute of St. Michael’s Hospital map
                209 Victoria Street, Room LKS 240
                (Located on the North East Corner of Victoria and Shuter Streets
 
Organized by the Transplant Adherence Program (TAP) and the Canadian Transplant Association, in collaboration with St. Michael’s Hospital, the “Love Your Kidney” information session is for kidney recipients and caregivers who wish to learn more about how to lead a healthy and active life post-transplant.
 
Hear from Dr. Jeffrey Zaltzman (Medical Director, Renal Transplant), Galo Meliton (RN and Renal Transplant Coordinator) and Dave Smith, kidney recipient and president of the CTA as they discuss interesting topics such as:
•         common challenges (such as the physical, emotional and financial impact of a transplant),
•         nutrition & exercise tips, and
•         how to stick to your medication and appointment routine.
 
Attendance is free but space is limited.  Your family and friends are also welcome.

Diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease at age 19.
Renal Failure at age 38 (2010) came about 2 hrs close to dying. Central line put in an emergency.
Began dialysis on Aug 15, 2010.
Creatine @ time of dialysis: 27. I almost died.
History of High Blood Pressure
I have Neuropathy and Plantar Fasciitis in My Feet
AV Fistula created in Nov. 2011, still buzzing well!
Transplanted in April, 2013. My husband and I participated in the Living Donor paired exchange program. I nicknamed my kidney "April"
Married 18 yrs,  Mom to 3 kids to twin daughters (One that has PKD)  and a high-functioning Autistic son
