Me licking my kidneys from my birthday kidney cake

« on: February 22, 2012, 02:54:30 PM »

I would like to know if there is a simple math equation to figuring out what my calorie intake is DAILY for my CAPD solution?

I went to the dialysis center & spoke to the dietitian about this and she pulled out this very intense form that was a page long and began to calculate my extra calories.... although this was helpful I feel that it was not right as I change my exchanges (sometimes I use all yellows, sometimes I use yellows and greens and sometimes I will use all greens) I WANT an accurate number of extra calories!!!!

So basically I want to know how many calories are in 1.5% 2000ml, solution and 2.5 2000ml solution bags............ HELP!!!
thanks in advance

If I recall correctly, someone posted on the points thread that 1.5% is 28 calories/liter and the 2.5% is 32 calories/liter. Those wre the numbers I used to work out the WW points.

I've been told by folks at UCSD to expect to get appox 500 calories a day from pd. My weight has gone up by 15 lbs during the last 1.5 yrs on pd. :(

OK based on Joe's numbers (and after reading the entire thread)

I am just a little confused as to why I am gaining so much weight?

I have been doing 3 yellows and one green

So one bag (yellow) is 56 cals times 3 will equal 168
green is 32 times 2 equals 64
for a grand total 232 cals

now, on the days that I work I do two greens and two yellows (I have been working 2 out of the 7 days) even so on them days

two green bags 32 times 4 equals 128
two yellow bags 28 times 4 equals 112
for a total of 240 cals

so again, why on earth am I gaining weight at a steady rate and how on gods green earth can I make it stop!!!
This is not alot of cals to take in and I dont really eat that much to begin with so I just dont understand this at all.......... these cals are like a small snack so I dont get it at all!!!

thanks guys

For me it is the extra calories in th PD fluid, 9-10 hrs stuck laying down in bed, extra fluid in my tissues, and lack of energy due to renal failure.

I am the heaviest I have ever been in my life, and I know it's a combination of the fluid, and the lack of physical activity. I am to the point now, where I won't be able to go grocery shopping alone anymore. I always make sure that all the cold stuff is separate so that when I get home, I take that in, put it away, and then rest 20 minutes before going for the second round. Every time I try to do any exercise, I get dizzy and weak.  I know that my new sedentary lifestyle is definitely impacting my weight. Unfortunately, when I am down, I use food as a crutch. It's a bad combo.
Just to share, I went completely Vegan for a month and only lost 2 pounds. I ate ZERO junkfood during that time. Even when I eat well, it's still a battle.
I'm hoping that whenever I get off dialysis (which means surgery), that the whole process (and transplant meds) will take some of that weight off.
