Newbie!!

Hi I'm Marie I'm 30 (as of last week!). I've been married for 6 and half years and have Andrew 4 and Elena 8mths. Ive had kidney disease all my life as was born with only one imperfect kidney and no bladder. I had a urostomy when i was 2, and when i was 8 they built me a bladder from bowl and i catheterise through small hold on abdomen. I fell pregnant with Lainie when my kidney function was around 23% Anyway prognosis through 2nd pregnancy was worse case scenario need dialysis at around 20wks. I had c-section at 35 weeks with Elena weighing only 3lbs12. She was a fighter however (like her mum!) and was out of hospital in a week, she's so advanced for her age now even tho she's still only 13lbs9! Anyway i digress sorry! After delivery function was 17%. However 2mths after her birth even tho i felt better than ever blood work at end of august showed function was down to 10% and i would need dialysis in weeks. Amazingly i'm still not on dialysis and feel well and am eating well, function is down to 8.8%. I'm extremely lucky as my dad is donating his kidney to me in 8weeks so im hoping to avoid dialysis altogether now, but if i have to have it it'll be through a temporary neck line. I do realize i may end up on dialysis anyway if things don't go as planned, but am trying to stay positive. Look forward to getting to know some people!!

Wow, you are like the bionic-women (dating myself here)  Welcome, and good luck.  I hope as I get close I can jump the big "D" right to transplant, although not likely.  But again welcome...

Hi Lainiepop, and welcome to IHD.  I'm so glad you found us.  Where are you from?  Mum..... I'd say England?   

It sounds like you know what you are in for and you have a plan.  I'll pray that it works beautifully.  Hang in there.  You may consider a few dialysis treatments before the transplant so your blood is clean going into it.

Thank u for the welcome everyone. Yes i am from England Thats the reason i have no clue when people talk about their creatinine as we measure in differently in the uk!
I don't feel ive been through that much tbh, i think cos ive had it since birth u get used to it and my last major op was the building of the bladder 22yrs ago so i remember little about this. Unfortunately tho it's going to make my transplant more complicated. As my bladder is in a different place to normal it means the kidney will be placed about 5cm below the bladder which is obviously not the usual way of draining it so could cause back up issues but they wont know that till they do it!! If this happens and puts pressure on the kidney they'll have to rip bladder out and give me urostomy bag back. Not overly what i want but the need the kidney more than the bladder! I'm praying it all goes well (as are so many of our friends and family) and im trying to believe everythings happened for a reason. It took a while to get pregnant and it really shook my faith as so many people kept getting pregnant accidently around me!! Doctors said id have a slim chance of conceiving so i took my son a as a miracle an gave it all up to God. That mth i fell pregnant, and received news that function had worsened. Bitter sweet. Went through so many things with the pregnancy not knowing how far id make it or if we'd lose baby then baby came back high risk for downs (refused amnio due to high m/c risk). Basically everything that could go wrong did, but for some reason i had more faith than ever that everything would be ok because this baby had happened when docs said it wouldn't. Then i has this beautiful little doll who was so perfect. Even her brother calls her his angel from heaven (he actually wanted a brother to start with lol!) When i was given the kidney news obviously i was devastated and it was so hard to deal with that and just having had a baby, but i feel the timing was meant to be with my dad being a match, as he's 66 so getting on a bit to donate  but his function is the same as someone in his 40s as is his general health according to all the tests  So i have to believe that it'll be alright cos even thogh we've been through many things on this journey, it's pretty much all working out, so just have to hope the final bit of the journey does too!! Sorry gone on a bit ! Marie
