Blokey received his kidney on the Tuesday and came out the following Monday. I think they would have discharged him a day or two earlier but he had a couple of minor issues.

I was in for 7 days.
The first words out of my mouth were "did it work? Is it working?" I was trying to ask my mom but she couldn't understand me. Thankfully there was a nurse there that understood and told me yes, it's working just fine.

This question is hard to answer because we all react different to this surgery and post events during recovery.
You can get a general idea, but always plan for extra days of stay.
When I had mine, my doctor said I'll go home in 3 days. Well it turned to 2 weeks due to various issues from breathing tube, meds, and infection.

Carl was in for 4 days. He was waling a mile in the halls by the day they let him out. I think the walking really helped.

I was in for 8 days. They wanted me in the hospital a day early, as the surgery was first thing in the morning the next day.

My good friend was in for 6 days, I was in for 3 weeks (stomach problems not allowing me to eat or keep hydrated). It varies from person to person. The bottom line is that once the kidney gets going, you will feel better. It's wonderful.

I went in on a Tuesday, had the transplant that morning and was discharged the following Tuesday. I was expecting to be out in 3-4 days, but I had a life-treatening reaction to Prograf/Tacro that required a chest catheter, Plasmapherisis and a couple units of blood. My donor (brother) was in the hospital less than 48 hrs. He couldn't get out soon enough as far as he was concerned! He went in with to goal of getting out in two days - he was terrified of getting an infection from the hospital...

My donor and I checked in on a Tuesday around lunch. Surgery was Wednesday morning. My donor checked out on Friday and I checked out late Monday.
