I just posted this in Facey but, as it's vaguely (very) dialysis related, I thought I'd repost here.

I watched the old movie "Geordie" at D yesterday. Do you remember it? Where the hero, the aforesaid Geordie, won the Gold medal for hammer throwing at the 1956 Olympics? Well I just checked, and he bloody well didn't. Why do people set out to deceive me?

They're not trying to deceive you, rather, they are just trying to entertain you.   :P

I think that comes under the heading of "poetic license" or something. Kind of like when Susan on desperate housewives got a transplant and was healed quickly and never got sick and all the wonderful things. It is more entertaining that way.

Like on House - " oh, my God, he has x, no he doesn't he has Y,  whoops, we just cut his head off and found out that he didn't have y, so it must be Z........ Oh, no his kidneys are shutting down, he needs a transplant or he will die (no-one with kidney failure on tv ever does dialysis, have you noticed that?  they have a transplant or die). ", it's ok there's a patient of (whatever the oncologist'sname is) who is going to die and we can harvest their organs.".   Person receives transplant and everyone is happy.  :shy;

ha ha ha ha ha!!!

So glad I stumbled on this one - you wouldn't believe how many times I've yelled at the TV in disbelief and anger!  I saw those episodes of "Desperate housewives" and House is always the same, like you say Amanda!  HA!

I remember watching a really old episode of Judging Amy, where Amy's cousin is a doctor in a really poor hospital.  There's a little black girl who needs a kidney and they want the grandmother of a little boy who was hit by a car to donate his organs. Totally never happens in real life.  But what really got me was a bit of dialogue about the little girl that the doctor said, "she's already had 2 rounds of dialysis.  I"m not sure she can take much more."  I've no idea what that's supposed to mean
