.....a sweet taste in your mouth.  It seems as if my salivary glands are producing a sweet taste.  I am always tasting something sweet in my mouth.  I do the cycler and get this no matter what strength of solutions I am using.  whether it is 1 green & 2 yellow or all 3 yellow.  I always forget to ask my nurse about it.  Anybody else with this ?

I taste the saline when they hook me up and when they flush back my blood at the end of treatment. Maybe you are tasting the solution.

I'm doing home hemo, not PD.    I get a sweet taste in my mouth when my blood sugar is way wrong (i.e. too high) (Diabetic).

I notice a bit of a sweet taste in my mouth when I'm doing PD. I'm with you in thinking it has to do with the solution.

I had that on occasion when I was doing hemo in center.  It has not happened since I switched to home hemo.  I think it's the dialsylate.

I'm thinking that's what it is too.   It seems to be on each side of my tongue and also way in the back of it.  Hmmmmmmmmmm, is this a relative of a "sweet tooth"....?

I've never done pd, but I'm betting it's the solution.  When I did hemo, I could taste different flavors for everything they added to my line.  Salt for the saline, and a strange licorice taste for epo, for example.  When they introduce stuff to the body, it enters the blood stream and instantly circulates all through it.  The meds are in the blood that enters your tongue, and your taste buds pick it up, even though it's not in your mouth.

Do you drink diet sodas or any food or other beverages with artificial sweeteners? Once I started Pd i noticed that saccharine and acesulfame potassium caused a sickly sweet taste to linger in my mouth for a day or more. Aspertame doesn't do this.

I do drink diet Sprite and also add one ounce of LiquaCel every other day.  I also drink diet Green Tea and sometimes diet Coke, but not often.

I get that with my PD solution.  Are you a high transporter or low?  You might be absorbing more dextrose and tasting that.

I'm on PD and while I don't have a sweet taste in my mouth, my wife says that my breath smells of the dialysis solution.

YES!! All the time, In the beginning I was only getting it when I had the solution in too long, but now it is almost constant. One thing we should be happy its a sweet taste, I describe it like a toothpaste taste.
