Randy's death

My dear old friends, It's been a long time since I've posted. But I wanted to tell you of Randy's death last Thursday. He actually lived 6 months longer than the doctors predicted, which was 3 years from the start of dialysis. I guess they only gave him 3 years because he had Hep C and his liver was so far gone. He never made any healthy lifestyle changes and never quit drinking or smoking. Dialysis made him weak sometimes, but not all the time. He had pneumonia many times in the past year. He had a hard time with pleurisy, too.

Last month he started showing signs of...exhaustion, I guess, and confusion. He had a very bad car wreck--They say he fell asleep driving his truck and drove into a tree. Fractured his neck. Then got pneumonia again...And it went downhill from there. His body gave out. He was admitted into hospital and died 4 days later, calm and peaceful on morphine.

He did fulfill half of his lifetime dream, though, which was to build a cabin in the woods. And I am going to finish building it in honor of him, with help from my friends.
I often remember how all of you beautiful people at IHD saved me from ... total breakdown, I guess. I deeply and sincerely thank you all. And my very, very best to all of you. ~Annie

Dear annabanana,
I have often wondered how you were doing, and if Randy ever got more help. It's sad to hear about his passing but I guess I knew it was eventually going to end this way. He's at peace now. I am sorry for your loss and the cabin sounds like a wonderful project. Best wishes to you and lots of {{{HUGS}}} too.

Dear Anna, I am so sorry.  You were such a support for Randy.  There were some very tough days for you.  The cabin sounds like a wonderful tribute.   Glad Randy is done with pain and suffering.  And I hope that his family finds peace and that you are comforted knowing you did everything you could.    Miss you and think of you often             Thanks for letting us all know.  You are in my prayers.

Sorry for your loss, sometimes we choose our own path and the only comfort in that sometimes is knowing he lived life under his own terms. We accept that and live on even when we might not agree. He was lucky to have someone like you to care about him.

phew! this is actually tough reading even though I too am surprised he lasted this long - and that sounds so horrible to write let alone think - but we all know how non compliant he was and how he drive you insane.

Thank you for letting us know what happened and I too think finishing the cabin is a beautiful idea. That is a loving and lasting tribute.

I do hope life has taken a turn for the positive for you and although this time must be sodifficult for you despite it all, that you can grow and at some point get back the life you lost and live - without forgetting - but living the way you should and to find some happiness.
