Hi there everyone, i am new to IHD.. i have had kidney failure since 98 and friday is the big day ..i get my catheter for PD.  I am a little nervous and not sure what to expect or how i am going to feel afterwards. I am a single mom to a special needs 5yr little girl who is the light of my life. and i will be going on a medical leave of absence from my job since i cannot perform my job while i am on dialysis, i am a flight attendant and travel internationally.  i am very grateful i found this sight.

I have not had any personal experience with PD, so can't help you there, but I'm sure others will jump in!

Hi Rileysmom, and welcome to IHD.  I'm so glad you found us.  Are you on the transplant list?  At least you could do your job with a kidney transplant.  Hard to do your job on PD I would think.  Maybe you could .  Riley sounds adorable.

Hi Rerun,
yes i am on the transplant list at northwestern memorial and i am going onto the transplant list at university of wisconsin -madison as well. i definitely cannot do my job while i am on dialysis so i will be on a medical leave of absence and will have to file for ssid.. also my complany said if i am still out on medical leave of absence after about 8months they will start the process of trying to find me a new job with in the company, the only down side of that is they could offer me a new job anywhere in the world .. that is one way of them getting round the whole "resonable accomindations" . i am a little stressed because finances are going to be hard especially with riley's special needs but i will try to figure it all out. i am sure my social worker will help me with letting me know of any assistance there may be for me here in illinois. a few more days til surgery. a little nervous.. mostly because of the unknown.

Welcome to IHD.  You sure have a lot on your plate.  I have a son with special needs.  He is 20 now, but when he was 5, life was very scary, and I didn't have either a job nor dialysis to contend with.  I can't imagine what it must be like to be working (or trying to!), to be on dialysis AND raising a child with a disability. :cuddle;  I really hope everything works out for you.  No wonder you are stressed.  Your social worker had better do his/her best for you!

I am listed at Rush, but when I saw my neph last week, he insisted I be listed at Madison, too, so he is starting the paperwork (I hope!  You know how heavy a caseload nephs have these days.  I hope he doesn't drop the ball!).  Have you actually been up to see the people in Madison yet?  I'd be very grateful if you could share with me any information/impressions/opinions you have about that outfit.  The waitlists here in Chicago are monstrous, although NW is better than most, but not THAT much better.

Anyway, I know you have PD questions, and I know that there are plenty of people here who can help you out with that.  I'm really glad you've joined.

I have not been up to madison yet, i did however call them directly and they took some info from me and told me someone will be calling me back in about three weeks to set up a date for me to come up and all the info i will need to get started to be placed ontheir list. yes chicago has a long waiting list NW is a bit long and my social worker told me UW-m is much shorter. so she suggested i call there. the number is 608-263-9531 if you would like to call and leave a message. they are really good about getting back to you with in 24hours. my social worker seems on top of things so hopefully things go smoothly. time will tell.
