Hi, my name is Lee Anne, and I'm happy to be a new member here. What a cool site.

A few quick stats. I'm female, 50, living in Royal Oak, Michigan, a northern suburb of Detroit. I'm married and have one daughter, 19, a student at Western Michigan Univ.

I first started having kidney trouble when I was about 22 ... a scarlet fever infection gradually began to destroy my kidneys. I was treated with medication for a couple years, then got a transplant in 1980, just before I had to start dialysis. It was an unrelated cadaver donor.

I lived well with that kidney until a few years ago, when it gradually began to fail. In the summer of 2005, it totally crapped out. I retained a lot of fluid, resulting in high BP (220/110) and basically congestive heart failure. The slightest exertion left me out of breath. I ended up in the emergency room. Started hemodialysis a couple days later. I've been on dialysis ever since. I use a fistula ... and it works well most of the time.

I still work full-time, as a writer for a marketing company, producing training materials for the folks who sell Ford cars and trucks.

I've been a blogger for a number of years, writing first on my personal site, "such small hands."  This summer I started a blog for dialysis-friendly recipes that I find all over the place. That's called "Eating Well on Dialysis." Like most of you, the diet restrictions drive me crazy, so I created this site to help me save and share good food that's also low-potassium, low-phosphorus, etc.

That's all I really have time to share right now. I hope to get to know you all as we talk.

Oh yeah ... I should add that I'm listed for transplant here in Michigan, in Ohio (Toledo) and Wisconsin (U of W). My daughter was tested to see if she could be a donor, but I have antibodies from my previous transplant and we had a positive crossmatch. She was soo disappointed, the darling. I give her credit just for wanting to try. My husband also is getting checked out to see if he can donate ... but I fear his borderline high BP will rule him out. I've been listed in Michigan about 2 years and about 1 year in Ohio and Wisconsin.

Thanks for the welcome, everyone! I can see we each have some amazing stories and I am just beginning to get into some of them. Just learning my way around.

Bajanne, I figured out how to incorporate links to my blogs in my signature. It takes me a while to get with the technical stuff, but I'm getting there!  ;)

Hello lamillinger913, and welcome to our site.  It sounds like you had your transplant for about 25 years!  You did wonderfully!  They DO positive crossmatch transplants.  Read Jill's story in the Transplant Section.  http://ihatedialysis.com/forum/index.php?topic=1319.0

I think they are just getting lazy and the can make more money from us if we are on dialysis!

Thank you for joining our site.  I'll have to take a look at your recipe site.
