I just wanted to take the time to introduce myself. My name is Mike. I am 38 y.o.  I live in the far western suburbs of Chicago. I lost my kidneys from PKD.  I am a home hemo patient on NxStage and Pureflow for about 9 months now. Previously I have been an in center patient and have been on PD. I started on dialysis when I was 27 y.o.  I have dialyzed for about 8 years now in between 2 transplants that eventually failed and brought me here to where I am today. I have not worked in over 5 years, previously I was a sales manager for AT&T the old AT&T. I really would like to get working again but am very scared about loosing disability benefits and trying to find an employer that would put up with more than the average absences. Any ideas would be great.... I am waiting for another transplant; however I have a very high PRA and the wait seems as if it is going to be a long time. I really enjoy the freedom that home hemo allows for. I hope the long term health benefits will be as good. I am very excited to join this forum and look forward to learning and also adding to the great information that I have found on this site.

Talk to you soon,

Mike

Welcome to IHD!

I'm hoping to go back to work when I get on the NxStage as well.  I understand wha tyou mean about the worry of losing disability, but I really want to feel like I'm being productive again!

Welcome Mike.  If you are interested in returning to work and get Social Security Disability there are work incentives to help you.  You can contact your local SSA to find out about them or find your local Work Incentives Planning an assistance Rep.  Let me know if you need help finding this info.  Good Luck, Jasperkat

Hello Mike.  MJB reminds me of when my Mom would make coffee.   ;D  Welcome to our site.  Sounds like you have tried every form of treatment also.  If hemo was fun everyone would be on it hua?  I've been to Chicago with my x-job.  Good memories but that is all I have of work.  Hope you enjoy this site.  You will laugh and learn.
