My donor and my wife are both teachers so summer break works best. He is a 0 of 6 antigen match but a very suitable donor, so we are going for it.

Now, we get to save money for two months of bills and pay down our debt to some degree.

Here we go!

Congrats, HouseOfDialysis ....

Forgive me ... I'm new to the board and new to dialysis (I am having my fistula installled tomorrow) .... Question:  June 2012 ...is that a date you scheduled yourself based on your own situation or is it typical for them to wait a long time for a living donor transplant situation.   (If I find a living donor when my time comes,  I'lll be scheduling for the next day !  HA).

Congratulations! Something to look forward to!

Todd, most living donor transplants can be scheduled within a few days to a few weeks of everyone passing their medical and being cleared by the transplant team. It depends on what works best for donor and recipient.

It's strange getting a specific date for this, at least it was for me. But a good strange, I suppose. You sound like you have a plan to use your time wisely. Good luck!

That is a date that my donor adn I agreed on. He's a teacher in Michigan as is my wife here in South Carolina. We were going to do it over Winter Break, but I withdrew that as an option, because my donor will need more than just two weeks to recuperate. So, we landed on summer break instead.
