Please help...new to fistula

Mom just started using fistula for the first time last week, one needle.  Monday they put in the second needle, flow at 200 , normally  should be 400ish, which is what they are working up to.  She was fine until the last 15 minutes of dialysis, when her hand started hurting and she had to be removed because of the pain.  They told her to talk to her doctor, which we are waiting to hear from this morning.  What is causing this?

Could have been the needle resting on a nerve ending during D, or rubbing on the inside of the vein.  It's also possible to get pain in the arm if it's been held straight out and in one position the whole time.  At first we can be quite tense and take the warning about not moving the arm so literally that it can produce pain....this is especially true if the site is near the bend in the elbow.

Could also be too much blood pulling away from the hand (steal syndrome) was it cold as well or num?

Hubby got pains in his too and the steal syndrome!  Unless it is excruciating, it could be the norm.  Not unusual to feel discomfort sometimes.  But still check with doc. or mention to clinic nurse.  It being a new fistula, it is maturing!  Just allow time for it to fully develope.
