Hi..My name is Anthony, I am 44 years old, and was born with Spina Bifida, although i got off with it pretty lightly and i am fully mobile, apart from a slight limp, i suffered from some damage to my uriinary tract also, which, by the time i was 16 years old, was significantly damaging my kidneys due to reflux.

I then had to have a urostomy to prevent further damage, and that served me well until 1999, when i was diagnosed with chronic renal failure, since then my kidneys have slowly declined, and i am less than 10 per cent function now, and i had a fistula formed 4 months ago, so i don'tthink it will be long before i start hemo dialylsis.

i cannot have any other from of dialysis do to the proximty of the urostomy, e.g not enogh room in my abdomen and the risk of infection is also higher.

I have been lurking on this message board for i while now, and only plucked up courage to join today, i have allready learned alot from the members of this board, who i have nothing but respect for, i find you all inspiring, brave, sometimes frightening, but always informative and sometimes very funny.

I also hope i can contribute something that may be of use, and i thank you for reading my first post

Welcome Anthony!  I hope I'm not one of those "frightening" members you mentioned.  At least not all the time.    ;)
Anyway, it's good to have you join the community.  Looking forward to your posts!

Knucklehead I love your name and avatar.  Thank you for your introduction.  Are you a candidate for a transplant?

I'm so glad you finally joined.              :welcomesign;

Rerun, actually i am, my sister is a good match, but i have to have my one remaining kidney removed first, because it is causing repeated infections, so i will have no function for about three months, then if i am stong enough, they will proceed with a transplant, assuming everything else goes to plan.

and hello Zach

 Welcome to our community!  I was thinking that you can't really be a knucklehead if you had the good sense to come to IHD!  Sorry to hear about your challenges, but I can sense that you are a survivor, like me. I am looking forward to hearing how everything goes.  Keep us posted.  You clearly understand this group already, and will be an excellent addition.
Blessings!
