I've had my new kidney 'Britney' for just over a month now!

So much to get used to! Peeing! firstly and foremostly, wow, sometimes I have to get up in the night, and it's not because my machine's alarming!
Food! So much lovely food to eat! Chips and tomatoes and bananas on toast, orange juice and hummus and cos I'm on pred I feel like eating all the time! I'm going to be ENORMOUS!!!
Fluid: I'm drinking 3 litres a day (no restrictions!) and really enjoying the different tastes of all the yummy juices I'm drinking!
Feeling better every day: instead of the grind of feeling constantly below par and exhausted on D I now feel more optimistic and want to get up in morning to see what the day will bring!
Not setting up my machine every night! I love this! I can go straight to bed when I'm tired and not have to worry about 4 handwashes, setting up the PD then 10 hours when I can't leave my bedroom!!

I know that the road is ro cky and by no means has this tx been a picnic, it could fail any time and I have to be very careful about my health (when is that never an issue for us?!) but even if I just get a short time free of dialysis, I will be forever grateful. It's been lovely to spend the last 2 weeks with my husband, we went out for a meal for our anniversary (2 years!) and I could eat whatever I wanted and drink as much as I wanted to (NO! not like that!  ::) we're planning a honeymoon, because we missed our original one as I had peritonitis.
I wish this process could happen for everyone who wants it, and that it would be trouble free, I would love everyone on IHD to share in how I feel at the moment. Just hope it lasts for me and everyone else who has this incredible gift.

Carla!! I love this post!! This is exactly the sort of thing those of us waiting for the miracle need to hear. I'm not jealous, I'm not envious(well OK, maybe a little!) but so overjoyed for you that so far it is all going so well. When people say to me why would I want to take the risk of a transplant - this is the sort of reason why. Your comment about waking up in the morning to see what the day brings sums it up - so full of energy and spirit and optimism for what this renewed stage of life means and offers you! I'm so excited - not just for you, but that hopefully someday that will be my reality, and that of every other person on IHD(and off it, even) waiting for a transplant. I know it won't work out for everyone - maybe not even me - but this is the kind of goal I dream about.

Hoping it continues for years and years!!!

So glad you are doing well. I am 7 months out and enjoying my new freedom tto!I think it is cute how we all seem to name our new kidney. Mine is Nicholas. I found out later that my donor was a girl so I guess I should actually change that to Nicole. LOL!

Thanks all! The reason I named my second kidney Britney was not in honour of crazy popster, Ms Spears.but because kidney TX number 1 was called Sidney, so my friend Sacha suggested that the second be called Britney.

Just thought I'd clear that up!!
