Shallow breathing, coughing...

For the past two days, I've been breathing shallowly and coughing a good ol' dry cough. Not fun!

I can't think of anything that would cause this and not aware of anything through PD that would cause this. I'd dont' believe it's fluid overload. No swelling, pressure isn't abnormally high, no other signs.

Curious.

It could be a bronchial thing not related to dialysis.

HouseOfDialysis, get your chest sounded,. I know you say you don't think you are over loaded but my husband had that last week ,  GP said it was a chest infection. Saw the neph he had got fluid on his lungs you take care and get it sorted.

I am prone to an annual bronchitis bout, but that is usually in February or November. I'm going by the clinic today for an epo shot, anyway. I might as well see if they can make anything of it.

I have a cold right now that is dragging on.  Had to go to the Dr. and I got a Z pack but they would only give me 1/2 strength because of my kidneys....Doc said just a lot of things going around right now.  Feel better.

My clinic nurses told me there were rampant cases of URIs but to keep an eye on my body as a whole and to inform them of any further changes immediately. They like to be kept in the loop. I like that about them.

Are yo utaking a new blood pressure med b chance? They can make you have a dry cough.

You know I got that same dang problem. I have been coughing since March!
 I went to Urgent Care not too long ago, and they had me take a chest x-ray, and that was clear. I got prescribed cough medicine/syrup, and that didnt do anything. I dont take ANY blood pressure meds at all, and Ive lost 7lbs in the last month, and I havent been over my dry weight at all even before I lost the weight. grr. I due to go to Germany in the next month, and I dont want to go coughing!
My neph says I will have to go to an ENT doctor because he cant seem to stop the constant cough.

Me TOO!!! I managed to pick up whooping cough about two months ago.  I thought it wasn't too bad for the first month, but it turns out that is just the settling in period.  Now I really know about coughing.  Not good not good.  And the doctor said last week, it might go on for 6 months.  And then a friend said quietly, hers lasted A YEAR. A really really horrible disease, I can see why it kills babies.   

PS (back to the subject at hand) I'm glad you took your cough to the doc, House.  Don't want to be fiddlefaddling around with coughs.  Did he give you anything or do you just have to sweat it out?  I can't remember at this moment if antibiotics work for viruses or not.

I took Muchinex DM for my cough and prescription cough syrup at night. The virus runs the course fast, but the cough lingers. I am into my second month and third trip to the doctor.

I'm on antibiotics and a pill for cough cessation. I was home from work today anyway because my daycare provider went to her grandmother's funeral. But today, we are just relaxing at home. The boy and I are going to the recycle center soon to drop off my truck bed full of cardboard. It'll be nice to get out for that bit of time.

Hd, a dry cough is fuid overload. Fluid can collect anywhere - ankles, back, lungs -in the lungs it manifests itself as a dry cough. It is tempting to look at your dry weight and and come to the idea that it's not that but you should rather be listening to the dry cough and questioning your dry weight level because the cough indicates it's too high.
Now, why am I coming back at you?, well it's because my symptoms matched yours and I followed the path  I've outlined and got rid of my cough.

coughing seems to be the standard around here as well.  Been 2 months of it     Finally got bad enough to go in and whammie!  there it was, in his lungs.  Doc sais to be way stricter on fluid intake (i thought we already were), and taking a bit more off during D.  Also going to do 7 days in a row so we dont have to be too agressive with it.  Today is day 5 and cough nearly gone...  Hubby too has his yearly bouts of bronchites so this is where it started i believe.  Got those lungs irritated and made um a good place to settle...  Hope yours is getting better...

I always get a dry, hacking cough when I run out of Zyrtec. It usually takes me a couple days to remember my allergies=cough, but as soon as I get back on the Zyrtec the cough goes away.

Just something to consider.

While I am not on dialysis, I still have my cough with occasional mucus. 

The air quality in NC is awful this week and could play a role for my southern cough buddies.

A dry couph is very common with PD Dialysis....Are you doing CAPD?  Not sure about CCPD unless you keep some fluid in your peritoneal cavity, but with CAPD, your belly is constantly filled with dialysate... This can put pressure on your esophagus/diaphram thus causing a dry couph.... Certain meds can also contribute such as some types of Blood pressure meds..... But if you have dialysate in your abdomen... There is a good chance that is the cause.... Nothing to worry about other than the dry couph all the time...

I'm on CCPD and only carry 2000ml for two hours after my last fill when I disconnect. I drain that out and go dry the remainder of the day. Cough is still there, though. It was gone for about a week, though.
