Good question, galvo. I can't even imagine how it is done.

All U.S. dialysis facilities must have emergency plans for evacuation which are reviewed with patients at least a couple of times a year.   Patients are instructed on how to turn off the blood pump and then clamp their dialysis lines and needle tubing.  Staff then comes by each station to disconnect the lines.  Patients who are ambulatory walk out.  Others are rolled out in their chairs.  It can be done in an orderly manner as long as no one panics.   We had this happen at my former clinic a couple of years ago.  Except for it being in the winter and freezing outside, all went smoothly.  Fortunately, a false alarm and we were back inside in a half hour.

it wasn't a total evacuation, the people with fistulas stayed in the clinic a little longer after it was determined the situation wasn't serious
