Okay, so I am new to D, and my neph has not yet put me on any fluid restrictions yet.  I am not going crazy drinking lots of water and juice, but I am not going crazy restricting it, either.  I am finding my feet and ankles get so waterlogged I can only wear certain shoes on D days!  Not happy about this!  I still pee, but I am noticing a decline in the amount.  How much longer do I have to bear water weight on my feet and (c)ankles?  It feels weird to climb stairs when I get like this!

KarenInWA, Sounds like you are drinking too much and /or they are not pulling enough off you on D days. Try to cut down your fluid intake a bit.

keep taking off fluid every D session.... over time you will get that water off your feet..... when I first start D  I had alot of water on my feet and ankles.....  couldnt wear shoes.....  but over a few weeks  my feet looked normal again.....  it takes time to get all that fluid off from all those places..... Now  I never get fluid around my feet...  its nice to wear shoes......

I'm  going  to  go  with  a  mixture  of  the  above.  qhile  your  bod  clearoy  has  excess  fluid  spread  around  it  the  D  us  slowly  takkng  off  yo  cann  aid  the  process  yourself  by  reducing  your  fluid  intake  -  specally  on  weekends  when  you  have  an  extra  day  between  sessions.

Might  also  want  to  discuss  with  neph  something  like  lasix  to  help  remove  that  extra  a  bit  faster  and/or  a  crit  lune/BVM  during  d  to  try  and  establish  just  how  wet  you  are  to  try  to  figure  out  a more  accurate  dry  weight  to  aim  for  - keeping  in  mind  to  not  try  to  do  too  much  at  once  guven  previous  cramping  and  potential  changes  in  real  weight  due    to  changed  appetite  patterns.

Good  luck.  :)

As with Bill's thought, are you putting restrictions on what types of food you eat? Your fluid restrictionn maybe different from the one I had, but I think I was allowed 8 or 12 oz of fluid a day total.

Just before I started HD my feet were so swollen I stopped wearing socks because otherwise I would not have got my shoe on. Even so, I had to use a shoe horn. My odema problem had persisted for many years.

Delightfully, after only a dozen or so HD sessions I had lost all the swelling. Still don't wear socks. Got too used to not wearing them.
