Hi just kinda found this board by accident. My name is andrew and I live in michigan. I was born with what's called vater's syndrome at birth. It is a series of birth defects and renal problems is one of the most common ones. My one kidney did not develop like it should have and therefore I had only one kidney. I needed a transplant by the time I was 9 years old. I did both peritoneal and hemo dialysis until my kidney transplant on august 2, 1993. The donor was my father. I've had that kid work ever since then but unfortunately it started to fail within the last 6-8 months. I landed back on dialysis in july 2010. 17 years with a transplant I can't complain!! I just found this place like I said on accident and it looked really cool. A community of people all going through the same thing sharing their experience's good or bad.

Welcome to the group, Andrew.  You're right, 17 years for a kidney transplant is fabulous.  Lots of good information and friends here.  Glad you found us!
