I posted last week that my sister in law Katie had been approved to be my donor.  We have a surgery date of April 19 at Emory Hospital in Atlanta.  Katie will by flying down on Wednesday the 13th and will have her pre-op the next day.  I had my pre-op on Thursday and learned a lot of final details about the process, meds and recovery.  So we are cautiously optimistic that everything will go smoothly from here until the surgery date.  And of course I have a mixture of anxiety and excitement about the actual surgery and recovery. My wife will be looking after me, Katie and our 9 month old Caroline, although we will have some family and friends eager to help out.

Just as a side note, I have about 42 months of waiting time on the list at Emory. I'm type O, with PRA levels less than 10 typically. The surgeons were surprised I'd never gotten a call.

Assuming it all goes well, only 5 more dialysis treatments until surgery!

Very happy for you. The countdown is on. I am less than two weeks in after having a kidney transplant and all is going very well. I looked at it like a rocket ship on the launching pad I know you will get off the ground. It has not been as traumatic as I thought it was going to be. My donor is doing very well too.
