Oh yeah. I was talking with a students about poetry and we came up with that line.  I shared the poem with her and she liked it. I love it when I can get kids interested in writing or reading!  :bandance;

I sit at my desk
Crunching a cup full of ice
Talking to my friends.

Sleepyhead

Too tired to get up.
Sleepy mornings in bed
I would prefer to sleep in
Until I wake up.
But the alarm hits.
The noise wakes me up.
I hit snooze.
Curl up with the blanket over my head
It is hard to get up in the morning.,
I feel tired in the morning.

Where does the anger go
When you are so angry that nothing
Is even felt inside near the soul?
Where do the tears go
When there are no more
And the source is dried up?
What happens when the feelings
That are wrapped up in things
Have vanished?
Where do you find the comfort
That has been stripped away?
Does anyone own words that can help?

The lost souls wander
Screaming their pain.

Women have strength
Whether they know it or not
Women bend in the wind
Like strong trees.
They often bend all the way to the ground
 But they do not break.
Women who live a long time
Gain wisdom through experience

When do I get to have fun?
When life gets to be too much
and I can’t handle it anymore
I have to run in circles and scream
I have to stand and scream it out.
But that is stress relief
Not fun.
Where is the fun?
I miss the fun.

Ring around the Rosie
Hopscotch
Blowing bubbles in the sunlight
Rolling down a grassy hill
With the sun beating down.
Playing tag.
Barefoot, summertime, till after dark.
Dozing off under a shady tree
With a book beside you.
Picnic basket shared with friends.
Now that is fun!

Dialysis, sharp needles
Blood running from pump to body.
Cold buildings.
Nurses, techs, dietitians, social workers.
Bills piling up
Because you cannot work anymore.
Medicare, social security, paperwork,
Just to get by.
Chronic Illness in my life.
Death looking over my shoulder.
This is not fun!

Watching movies on a personal DVD player.
Drinking an ice cold Cola.
Crunching on a cup of cold ice.
Reading a book from cover to cover.
Putting a warm pack under a blanket.
Talking to people who really care.
Headphones that block out the noise.
A TV that works, with cable channels.
Days on dialysis can be good
Sometimes.

But I still miss the fun
Spontaneity
The ability to pick up and go
Travel where I want
When I want to
Go and do and be
Whenever and however I want.
Now I have to plan it all out
Be sure to schedule and plan my life.
Fun has to be planned now.

It is the price I pay
For life.

"There Is No Place Like Home!"

« Reply #38 on: March 27, 2011, 12:13:02 PM »

I remember writing a somewhat poetic note years ago.  So I went looking for it today and found it!  I wrote in June 1973, I was 19yrs of age.  Here it goes:
Lord you know that Iam growing older.
Keep me from Gossip.
Release me from trying to straighten out everybody's affairs.
Refrain me from reciting endless details, but Wings to get to the point.
Give me Grace to listen to the Needs of others, and the Strength to help meet those needs.
Seal my lips to as to my own aches and pains.
Teach me the Glorious lesson, that it is possible, that I may be mistaken.
Keep me reasonably sweet.

I just didn't realize if I kept this or not.  It has been so long ago. Goodness, can you believe at 19 I felt I was growing old.  Lord have Mercy!
Mold me to be helpful and not bossy, and Lord,
I want a few friends at the end.
