Hello everybody,
I am kumar from india and am here for my sister.

She is 40, was diagnosed with neurogenic bladder around 14 years back and the back pressure gradually took a toll on her kidneys.
We started hemo 2 and half years ago(home hemo) and i now understand why it is such a stressful experience.
I am a doc by profession and that is both a blessing and curse cause docs are horrible patients.
I am not used to writing much, so excuse my short introduction.
Looking forward to making some friends and sharing experience with you guys.

Love,
kumar.

What government support do you receive? In other words, how much does dialysis cost in India. What happens if s patient cannot afford dialysis? TIA.

Hello,
Thank you everybody for such a warm welcome.

Murf, Hemo facilities are present in state run medical colleges which provide dialysis at a negligible cost.
Govt run hospitals which have a well maintained water treatment system and regular technicians are found in select few cities(eg.mumbai) and they are already packed to capacity.
So, frankly the govt does very little for dialysis patients.
Dialysis is way down on the priority list of the health department.
Sadly, infectious diseases still eat up a lot of resources here.

The poor are helped to a certain extent by some private hospitals which receive funds from some non government organisations and such.
