 :flower; Hello everyone! My husband and I are thinking about starting the nextstage home treatments.My husband has been on dialysis for 7 years.We now do pd @home 7 days a week .His clinic nurses are wonderful and have introduced us to nexstage. We are somewhat nervous to try, The blood that is visual is scaring him. I as well am scared to try. I have been reading everyones post and you all have helped me in so many ways.Then I read somewhere that some people stay sick on this machine, and that scares me because he doesn't feel great now and I don't want him to be sicker. Can any  one help with this ?  And I will take any other info you have to help us decide what to do .Thanks alot :grouphug;

Well hellow there Sherry  ;D, and again, welcome  :welcomesign;  I think PD is wonderful, until, it's not wonderful anymore.  There have been a few others who have needed the change and I believe it has worked out to be just the answer.   I hope you get some good answers to help ya along here.  I dont have that particular experience for you, but im sure others will...  Glad ya joined..

Hi Sherry and welcome to IHD  :welcomesign;  My hubby was on PD for 2 years and then it quit working for him.  (not adequate clearance)  Now we do NxStage at home.  While he has had his ups and downs, he would tell you that it is infinitely better than doing hemo in a clinic.  It was a little scary at first but the machine is very user friendly and after a while it's routine just like PD.

Welcome to the group.  I've been on PD for 7 years, with an occasional foray into hemo due to peritonitis (like now).  I will keep going back to PD until it simply isn't viable any more.  Have my new surgery set for Feb. 23.  If he doesn't feel well on PD, is it possible he's not carrying enough fluid?  Does he dialyze through the night?  Talk with your neph and find out.  Best of luck to you in whatever you decide.  Glad you found us!

Thanks, Yes he is on a pause in the mid day and then he is on the machine from 9 at night until 7 -8 in the morning. He has been on pd at home going on 7 years, and only had peritonitis one time.He does really well on pd, but tired all the time.He also is a diabetic and a little over weight.He loves to eat lol. His clinic nurse would like for him to try nxstage. He also has been up on the top of the transplant list since November.Hoping for a kidney soon.But in the mean time they would like us to start nxstage.He has an app this week with the surgeon to see about getting a fishula in his arm. I think he  also needs a change , he seems down alot lately . Maybe he is due for a change. :flower;

Sherry,

My husband has been/was on NxStage for 2 1/2 years (transplanted on Thursday). It was a great fit for us because it allowed him to work full time and do dialysis in the evenings.

I have to tell you that the first time I had to stick him I thought I would throw up, but it all became so routine that we often talked and joked during set-up and cannulation (sometimes to our detriment). NxStage gave us a great deal of freedom, much like doing PD.

Learn as much as you can and make a decision based on what you think will be best for you.

Wow congrats on your husband getting a transplant, that's wonderful!!!! Thanks for all the info. I give my husband epo shots 3 times a week, and at first I was afraid, now I stick him with no problems.But I think that's probably different than sticking him for this.I just hope he can handle looking at the blood.He has a weak stomach.But I will stick by him and try my best. I am so glad I was told about this site. It sure has been a blessing ,and everyone is so nice and kind.Thanks alot and good luck to your husband. :grouphug;
