Hi Everyone!

I'm a 50 year old female who lives in upstate NY, works full-time outside the home, and is a caregiver.  In July, my 71 year old mother was diagnosed with kidney failure, which was caused by an antibody (anti-gmb).  Over a very short time period, kidney disease and dialysis has transformed my mother from a sweet, loving, intelligent woman into a woman who is very frail, confused, delusional, emotional, and dependent on her family for everything.  My mother's doctors haven't been straightforward about what to expect; just that "the body hates dialysis".  I notice that my mother seems worse after every dialysis session, and nothing I do seems to help her.  I came to this site hoping to learn more about kidney disease and the effects of dialysis, and to correspond with others who are also dealing with the disease.

Welcome to IHD neenie43

You came to the right place for the most accurate information you'll find anywhere, why? Because everyone here has been there at one stage or another and you will be reading messages and stories from real people. Ask anyone of our members a question and you will get a straight answer. Our owner/Administrator is Epoman and he is a wealth of information in himself and started this fantastic site for people just like you. Post often and ask questions but most of all know that you are not alone in your quest.

Thanks for taking an interest in IHD.

Welcome Neenie43's
   Formally from Orange County New York I understand your frustration with some of the medical profession!
I would think that your Mom's labs should be better now than when she started in July and would hope that
her clearance is good.  I recommend that you get a copy of her monthly lab tests to see for yourself where
she needs improvement. Most of that is with the diet and she may not be able to comprehend what they
are saying to her right now in her frame of mind.  Dialysis is a very upsetting life altering event and it may take some
time for her to feel more like herself.  Best of luck to all of you.

Welcome to our community.  We are not medical practitioners (at least, most of us are not), but we are people who have been there, either as patients or as caregivers.  That qualifies us to share our experiences which can help others.  Stick with us, and you will learn lots.  I am so happy that you cared enough to come to this site, seeking answers.
Keep posting and let us know how your mother is doing.  It might take a while, but she should soon be feeling better and her body gets accustomed to this new way to deal with toxins.
Hang strong!

Welcome, Neenie43!  :welcomesign;  I think you'll find a wealth of information on this site to help you and your mom.  I hope your mom can get stabilized and be more "her old self" again; I know how hard it is to watch a loved one suffer and not be able to make it right.  Now that you're part of the IHD family, you can be sure lots of good thoughts are coming your way!  :grouphug;

Welcome Neenie.  Give your Mother some time.  It has taken a year but my husband is slowly returning to his old self.  I agree that you should see the labs and see what is going on.  My own experience says it takes patience.

 :welcomesign;  Neenie~ (that is the same name I call my sis, Anita)  Glad to have you join us, sorry that you have watched your mother transform due to this disease, but know that it can get better.  Don't know how you do it, but your mom is lucky to have you as her advocate!  Best of luck.
