I was transplanted on thursday and everything went well!  Heard all 10 people in chain did well.  Dh was more uncomfortable than we expected...he is my hero!  I can't wait to send a thank you to my other hero..my donor becky.     My creatnine is now 2.1  incredable!!!!  Going to sit up in chair for second time soon

Transplanted 1/6/11 (Chain Transplant My altruistic donor was  "Becky from Chicago" , and DH Mike donated on my behalf and the chain continued...)

Fantastic pam! Good luck!  A nephrologist from my practice came in today amd told me that she did not know our center did chains until she heard about mine and she now has patients joining the program!!    Sax it was 11 before

Newbie caretaker, so I may not know what I am talking about :)
Caretaker for my elderly father who has his first and current graft in March, 2010.
Previously in-center hemodialysis in national chain, now doing NxStage home dialysis training.
End of September 2010: after twelve days of training, we were asked to start dialyzing on our own at home, reluctantly, we agreed.
If you are on HD, did you know that Rapid fluid removal (UF = ultrafiltration) during dialysis is associated with cardiovascular morbidity?  http://ihatedialysis.com/forum/index.php?topic=20596
We follow a modified version: UF limit = (weight in kg)  *  10 ml/kg/hr * (130 - age)/100

Wow so quick!! That's fantastic. A real reminder that live donations often go better and smoother than cadaveric (not that I am complaining AT ALL about mine!). Wonderful news.

Re your husband finding it harder - I've often heard that recovery for the live donor is harder than for the recipient. You can sort of understand why - they're actually being a bit more invasive with the donor to get the kidney out of it's fairly well protected area in the back and putting it into a much easier access spot in the front. Hopefully he will be right soon enough though!

SO wonderful than a chain of 10 has gone so well - that's 20+ people's lives changed forever - for the better!!!!

Pyelonephritis (began at 8 mos old)
Home haemo 1980-1985 (self-cannulated with 15 gauge sharps)
Cadaveric transplant 1985
New upper-arm fistula April 2008
Uldall-Cook catheter inserted May 2008
Haemo-dialysis, self care unit June 2008
(2 1/2 hours X 5 weekly)
Self-cannulated, 15 gauge blunts, buttonholes.
Living donor transplant (sister-in law Kathy) Feb. 2009
First failed kidney transplant removed Apr.  2009
Second trx doing great so far...all lab values in normal ranges

My wife is JDHartzog. In 1994 she lost her kidneys to complications from congenital VUR.
1994 Hydronephrosis, Double Nephrectomy, PD

Creatnine 1.4!!  Came home last night and feel great!! DH is doing well and I heard that everyone in the chain did well also!!  :clap; :clap; :clap;
