Does anyone here take it for A-Fib or for another reason? Tell me your complants about the drug. How often do you get your level checked?

Obviously coumidin is a blood thinner. Maybe it will make the heart work a little easier. I really don't know, my Dad was on coumidin thats all I really know about it.

My husband has been on it forever - well, since his 30th birthday when he had a pulmonary embolism.   :o

I don't know if this will help you, (since he's not on dialysis) but he's been on coumadin (the generic anyway) for almost 13 years now.  He gets a protime done every 2-3 months (to check his clotting time) or so.

Now, my MIL is on dialysis and does have A-Fib.  They had her on amiorodone & plavix up until her last hospitalization right before Christmas when they thought that they might have both been causing liver/kindey probs.  We have a tentative cardio appointment this Thursday though - perhaps coumadin will be an option for her.

I am on Coumadin and have been for 3 years now. I have a huge bloodclot in my leg. I have a gene mutation called Factor V Liden that causes me to clot more. I have had the bloodclot for 3 years, and it has gradually gotten bigger over that time period. It now almost reaches my heart.

I get a protime done every week, bc my body likes to fluctuate a lot. One week it's way too high, the next it's way too low. I don't really have any side effects from it, that I know of anyway.

What sux about it is that I'm only 19 and that I'm also on PD...

When i first started dialysis i was on warfin because my permacath created a bloodclot near it, i was on it for about a year, i was always a bit worried while taking it but my clot eventually got smaller, and warfin was stopped.  :thumbup; i didn't have any major side effects other then bruising.

Under strict control i think these blood thinners are safe.
