I think the we should make evryone do dialysis for a day. Within reason and adults. Force them in a hemodialysis clinic and put everyone in restraints and pull out the 15 gauge needles stick em pull their blood and have them sit for four hours laughing hysterically and see what the results would be. You mention blood and needles and see the looks you get maybe if everyone went through it it would change the opinion on donor and transplant awareness. Can you imagine the furor!!!!

I often offer to let my husband take my place for a night. He refuses.  He sat through an entire session in the hospital once when I had my infection to clear this past year. He learned a lot then. Even though I have been doing this eleven year by then, he learned a lot because he had never sat through a session. He asked all kind of questions.  I just laid there trying to recover. He still will not trade places with me.  Drat it!

I wish they could just feel like we do for a day. Like when you are half out of it, and the doctor comes around telling you things you should remember. Or when you are freezing your sore buns off and can't do anything about it. Today took the cake, my cath. was put in Dec. 7th so it is pretty new. Last week they took one of the stitches out because it was too tight, pink and sore (thank you Mr. surgeon). Today the other stitch was pink and hurting. I'm not to change my dressing, but the nurse said they no longer have antibacterial ointment for me. I don't wish my condition on anyone, just wish they knew what it is like to have dialysis.

There was an article on here a while back, about a social worker who had a simulated dialysis session, just to see what it was like.  She wasn't actually connected to the machine, but they had lines taped to her and bags of fluid to weigh her down, taking one off each hour that she was in the chair.

I think that should be part of dialysis nurse/tech training
