I see Dialysis Cruises advertised. Have any of you ever gone on one? Anyone know what they cost?

I have been looking at them myself. I notice that in the DaVita promotion where they want people to nominate a person for a cruise, that they say the prize is worth over $5,000.00, so I suppose it is somewhere in that region.

Dialysis cruise: $5,000.
Hiring a relative to feed your animals and pick up the mail for a week: $50.00
Not having to sit in that cold %$#@ing chair at dialysis for seven glorious fun-filled days: Priceless!

Oh, no I'm sure they train them to keep it freezing on the ship too.  And while everyone gets their gourmet meals, we would get a luscious slice of lettuce. |

I would love to go on a cruise but I hate the idea of spending all that money for a cool vacation and have to be dialized while on vacation. It kind of defeats the purpose of a vacation.  |

i looked into them before i got my pager they look very nice...unfortunately for me i am no longer allowed to be more than 5 hours away from my hospital

It's sort of deceptive to call it a 'dialysis cruise' since the ships I read about are only allowed to carry 10-12 dialysis patients at a time, with the rest of the passengers being 'healthy' people-- it's not like you're going to be on a ship full of other dialysis patients. So you're going to be assailed by lots of foods you can't eat, and activities you won't be able to attend due to your dialysis schedule... to me, that would just underscore how my life truly sucks now that I'm on dialysis!  At least when I'm home, I can forget about it for awhile. |

I'd like to start my own Dialysis Cruise company... Take a trip with Dar's Dialysis Cruises, the only cruise company JUST for dialysis patients. Healthy escorts of patients are welcome... but please be advised that while your dialyzing spouse is at treatment, you will be doing laundry, washing floors, and preparing meals. Hey, it's not fair for YOU to just sit on your ass while your spouse is risking his or her life on a machine!  |

Hi everyone! I would like to go on a dialysis cruise but hubby won't.. however, we do travel.
We are planning a trip to the Dominican Republic for this winter. I found an excellent clinic in Punta Cana for dialysis. Already went last winter.. wonderful holiday, in spite of dialysis..

The person to contact is Desiree BoumanIt cost me $300 USD for each session, but the Canadian gov't gave back $210 CDN so it wasn't too bad.. check to see if your gov't does anything like that..
It is such a beautiful country, the people are sooo nice.. I love to travel..
The clinic is only 5 minutes from the Punta Cana airport..
The beach is awesome..
