I think we probably do have an image of Pakistan as being a war-torn place filled with terrorists because this is usually all we hear about, but I think most of us realize that there are people there just like us who want to live happy lives (preferably free from dialysis!) and look after their families.
I just read a book about partition which was such a tragedy.
I've never been to Pakistan; I love travelling and understanding other cultures. I do have one question. Would you describe a typical day in your life (a non-dialysis day)? What kinds of things do you, your family and your friends do for entertainment? What did all of you have for dinner last night? How about breakfast this morning? Do you take holidays? Do you drink coffee, tea or something else? Other than dialysis, what things worry you?
Thanks for offering to let us question you!

Hi Khaliq, we have friends from Pakistan, in fact she is waiting for her fiance to come to the U.S. so they can be married. It is an arranged marraige and he is waiting for his Visa. Her family owns a great restaurant here and we have enjoyed trying new foods there. Were you affected by the flooding a few months ago? The pictures we saw were very sad. There seemed to be a lot of destruction.
We are glad you found this site and hope you will find answers and also support. This isn't a nice disease and everyone here knows what you are going through. We look forward to reading more from you. Welcome to IHD

Welcome to the site. It sounds like you live like most of us here in the U.S. I look forward to hearing more about you. What kind of kidney problems do you suffer from and how long have you had it? What type of dialysis are you on? Any chance of transplant there?

I wish I knew more about cricket; I watched many international matches while I lived in the UK. I remember Imran Khan and his turn to a political life. As a matter of fact, I was surprised to see him being interviewed on American TV not long ago in a story about the terrible flooding in Pakistan.
The Punjab is a proud part of Pakistan. I am interested in languages but don't know much about the languages spoken in your part of the world. Which is the language most people speak in Pakistan? I know that in India, many languages are spoken like Urdu and Hindi...are there a lot of different languages spoken in Pakistan?

Welcome. You have helped to show just how far and wide kidney disease effects people. Of all cultures, all races, all religons, and of all different financial statuses. IMy husband has insurance from where he worked for 35 years to pay for his dialysis. Medicare (an insurance usually for seniors or people with serious illnesses also helps). I am wondering how in your country services are finanacially provided. Based on my understand (correct me if I'm wrong please), is that your country has many a financial hardship that effect many areas of your lives. I think we all do in one way or another. Nice "meeting" you.

Thanx paris,cloud393,texasstyle nd welcme too.
paris yea the flood destory lot of area of all 4 province n pakistan.
nw the reconstruction process going on.
cloud393 i have esrd,nd on hd last 1 yr.u cn read me abt on introduction page(why ppls afraid dialysis).
W
texasstyle there is no concept of insurance.bcoz govt cnt provide that..like fr a sick person have no health insurance.govt provide sm free health feclites.but that r nt much gud.that,s why ppls perfer to privit treatment.Like n mine .there is free dialysis unit n my city frm govt but thier n free hd center they nt provid gud serivce.else they improve my health they make it more worse.nd i use to traval to other city to a privit hd ceneter.wer i expend 50$ Fr every hd session.
so texasstyle n pakistan its so hard wen u gt sick n a big run.
sorry (police) rerun i wil follow the rules.

Khaliq
, like Rerun said, would you mind terribly starting a new thread about Pakistan in the Off Topics Forum? I think this is a really interesting discussion; I am really enjoying the opportunity to learn more about your country, but we really should continue this in the Off Topics Forum. Thanks!
Oh,,,,sorry...it has been moved! I didn't even see that! Well, it's late here in Chicago, and I'm to tired to notice where I am posting. Sorry about that.

Before I became ill, I worked in over a dozen different countries around the world. Pakistan was the friendliest.
Pakistan was also the most dangerous — not from terrorists but from diseases. I twice returned from Pakistan only to have to go to hospital. Once with bacillary dysentry and once with celluitis.
I remember catching the dysentry infection. It was at a very pleasant restaurant in the mountains north of Islamabad. Dining on a terrace you could look out over the lights of Islamabad and, in the distance, Rawalpindi. The food was delicious. Next day everyone who dined there went down. One poor guy from the USA was giving a presentation and just keeled over in the middle of it.
I caught celluitis by being bitten by a bug in an hotel in Faisalabad. The interesting thing I remember in this hotel was some sort of dinner that an extended Pakistani family had there. All the men and youths sat at one table; all the women and children at another, a little distance away. Very odd behaviour to my occidental eyes.
So you see Khaliq, although I found the Punjab country to be beautiful, the people friendly, I shall not return.

All foreigners; some from the UK and others from the US. We formed a team with experts from both countries.

Many years ago when I was still in college, our university choir made a trip to Guadalajara, Mexico to sing Bach's Mass in B Minor with the Guadalajara Symphony. Some of us were housed with local families who were patrons of the symphony; a fellow choir member and I stayed with the family of a prominent cardiovascular surgeon. His home was beautiful and very clean, I assume. Well, my choir friend got very very ill after eating a meal in the surgeon's home (I didn't), and no one else did, either, so I always assumed that foreigners don't have the chance to build antibodies against microorganisms that are prevalent in a different part of the world. I am wondering if that's what happened to you and your team. Just another random thing I think about occasionally.

Thanks so much for that,
khaliq
. I am familiar with the breads you mentioned...roti and paratha. It sounds like your days are busy...lots of familiy members going to and from school and to and from work. You mentioned that your mom is ill...does she have a chronic illness? Is she going to be OK?
Have any of your doctors or nurses at your dialysis clinic ever mentioned a special diet that kidney patients should follow? Have they spoken to you about the dangers of eating foods high in potassium and phosphorus? Here in the US, we are supposed to follow strict diets that help protect us from the effects of kidney disease. (I guess these questions really belong in the "Diets and Recipes" forum, so if you'd like, you can ask some questions there or start a new post about how people in Pakistan are taught about their special kidney diet).
Your days and evenings sound a lot like ours over here in the US...eat, visit with family and friends, school, work...simple pleasures.
