Hello my name is Wendell and I will be starting PD treatments on Monday, just got out of surgery to have the tube inserted so still a little sore.  This site looks like a good place to ask all the questions that I'm sure to have as I begin on this part of my life.  I am a diabetic with high blood pressure which caused my kidneys to fail.  The interesting part of getting treated here in Okinawa is the language barrier.

You are very wise to join our community! :2thumbsup;  There are a lot of very informed and supportive people here!  Tell us more about the language barrier; how do you get around that?

Aloha to you too!  Welcome to our community, Wendell!  You did the right thing to join us just before you started.  There is so much information, support and encouragement here.  You will find that this is a genuine family  :grouphug; caring and sharing.  Please keep us up to date on your progress (in the appropriate section - General Discussion).  We expect a blow by blow (just a metaphor!) account of your first session!  And as you go through it please know that you are not alone  :cuddle;  You have an entire international family with you.   So just keep reading and keep posting.

E Komo Mai and Aloha to you! We used to live on the Big Island in Kona. What are you doing in Okinawa? Glad to hear PD surgery went well. I just started PD 6 months ago. Welcome to IHD.  :waving;

1974 Surgery to fix birth defect and abdominal hernia.
1989 - Diagnosed with Hashimoto's Hypothroid

1970 to 2010 40 years of CKD
Mar 2010 PD Catheter placed
April 2010 PD Started, Baxter Cycler
Nov 2011 Dialysis is taking it's toll. But, I am still here kicking death's ass! Tired...So very tired...But kicking!

Have SEVERE PTSD from Medical Related Trauma in Childhood (took me 3 years to get listed because of it)

Aloha All, Mahalo for the warm welcome.

To answer some questions, language barrier, I know a little japanese enough to say where it's hurting, but I try to bring my japanese wife with me to relay what they are saying.

Reason for being in Okinawa is that I'm working as a DOD US Govt. civilian and the primary reason I went the PD route is that I need to keep on working full time at least for another 8 years.

I will follow up with my progress as I begin my treatments, and as suggested in the general section.

Again really glad I found this site.
