well, I don't think the 3 days is going very well. He is wearing his thigh high elastic socks, the kind for edema, tonight. he is getting a little better on fluid intake butthe diet is out the window. I'm also keeping in mind he's just had a pericardial window put in his heart 2 weeks ago. Will see the heart Dr. Tues. I have to wonder if this fluid is more the CHF or the kidneys. I'm getting pretty confused here. I'm curious to see how his labs went for the first full 3 day week. I'm not even on it but I HATE DIALYSIS! LOL. I certainly feel for everyone.

they may not do new labs straight away so you may not know. Anyway, and I hate to write this, but are you relying on Mike to tell you what his labs are? If he doesn't tell the unit half the stuff that's going on with him, what about you? (Again, sorry I feel quite horrid writing that thought.. I don't mean to be rude.. but the thought is there).

re the diet out the window.. he can't slacken off on stuff like potassium just because he's going another day a week. He really needs to stick to it if he doesn't want a repeat of a couple of weeks ago....

Today's breakfast was eggs, in a white flour totilla wrap with pepper. That's pretty "safe" isn't it? If it is I think we're making progress. He also has a magazine he gets now about nutrition and has been interested in reading things about high blood pressure etc. I'm hoping something sparks and he takes a vested interested in his health. Glad the magazine can be a source of helpful, educational information. Fluid intake looks as if it's being motoried today too. Hmm...... Am I imagining this? lol  Sure is sleeping all day though. Once the Philles baseball comes on though...... lol

Good source of protein there with the eggs - which he needs with hemo.

Is the magazine related to renal nutrition? Remember that a general publication may not be appropriate for dialysis patients on the renal diet. It IS a good sign though. Really happy to hear. Hoping as he settles into the 3x routine that his overall energy and health will improve and he won't need to sleep all day.

Thanks for the update :)

no, it's not a renal amagzine but does have a lot of information about many different health issues. I'm glad to see he's reading it. He's even brought up a couple up topic's he learned about high BP. I hoping he'll start to see health matters as not only educational, but interesting which to me, to they are. One step at a time here.....lol

American eggs are different, Kicks. They have white shells, whereas ours are brown.   :laugh:

I read somewhere that the yolks were OK but not the whites.

Ya have to take the dietician's suggestions with a pinch of salt  :rofl;

Actually, in the States, we have both white and brown shelled eggs.

Also, it's the whites of the eggs, not the yolks, that's best for us.
The whites are one of the best forms of protein and they are low in phosphorus.
But they do contain potassium, so moderation is again in order--and remember the binders.

Texas, I think you better off going with corn tortilla wrap. The flour has more bad stuff in it than the corn (baking powder, shortening or lard and flour made form wheat). That's what my mom puts in when she makes flour tortillas from scratch(mmmm.....delicious).

Stody, the breed of the chicken determines the color of the shell.

Another issue with eggs is they probably don't want you to have too much because of cholesterol concerns....

Like anything it seems moderation is the key - but I agree that an egg is a great source of protein, and I often get something with egg in it for a boost.
