 I am so sick of shopping & trying to kill 4 hours doing nothing. We live a hour away from the hospital Frank goes to 3 days a week so it is not worth going home, too much driving & the cost of gas ($2.69 per gallon). So I stopped in  at the Red Cross office which is close to the hospital & offered my help on those days. I must tell you the time I am there flys by, the people are so nice & happy to have help. So far I have been making reminder calls about appointments & stuffing envelopes for the many mailings that they do.

As my blokey drives himself to dialysis, straight from work, I just get to chill at home on my own (which I like) three evenings a week.  If I had to hang around it probably wouldn't bug me too much (I don't drive and am used to wasting time whilst waiting for buses which barely exist!)

The volunteering sounds like a fabulous way to 'waste' some time, with the added bonus of new friends!  Plus, all that money you must be saving now you don't have to spend time shopping!

As we dialyze at home now, I have all kinds of time to get stuff done that has been allowed to "slide" the past couple of years.  At some point though, I can see an end to it.  Volunteering is a great idea and I will def keep that in mind.

My Husbands, Dialysis is less, then Two Miles, from Home and He is able to drive Himself. He starts at 6:30 in the Morning, so it's too Early for Me to go out and do anything. I'm a little Ashamed, to say, this, but what I do, on those Mornings, is - get up, right after He leaves, Plop, Myself, down in His Chair and hold the Remote Control, in My, " HOT LITTLE HANDS " for, Three and a Half Hours!  :rofl;

Thanks for reminding us that while we patients are tied to a chair by tubing, out in the lobby we may have loved ones tied to a chair by the much more powerful bond of their love for us.

I liked that Bub. It's nice to hear, that a Dialysis Patient, understands, that this really is a " Circle of Life "  Everyone, who is Touched, by this Disease, has had, Their Lives, Altered. We all try to Adjust and fall into the Groove. We get by, with Humor and Tears and Yes, Love. This Sunday, August 1, My Husband and I will be having, Our 40th Wedding Anniversary. No Trip, No Dinner, just lots of great Memories.

I have so many unfinished projects that have come to a screeching halt, it seams like the days we are home I'm just too tired to even attempt to work on them. Maybe when we are Nxstaged trained I'll finish the kitchen, tiling the floors, weed the garden, finish the brick sidewalk we dug out & have yet to fill with brick (it is filled with weeds though).....

My husband goes in at 5:45am. I used to get up atthe time and start cleaning away! It's so much easier when no one is home lol. Now though, I try to sleep in, then what ever time is left I do some "light" cleaning lol

I have it on good authority that my cat sleeps while I am on the machine, but somehow she seems to know when I finish because she's waiting at the door for me when I get home!  :rofl;

We dialyze at home, so I have to do vitals checks every half hour.  And gosh, you know, how much cleaning could I really get done when I have to go take vitals every half hour??  (Hush, all of you.  It's my story and I'm sticking to it.)

But it is enough time to read a few posts on IHD...

My brother is first shift. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, I go into work. On Saturdays I used to come home and try to sleep but the adrenaline rush in waking up with my brain screaming "OMG, OMG, it's Saturday, it's daylight, I have overslept and my brother has missed dialysis!" was killing me. It would take a little bit to reorient myself, but the damage was done.

Now, I frequently stay with him and watch TV or surf the net. If I leave, I enjoy walking the aisles in the nearby supermarket or I head home and do the bills or eat breakfast. During football season, the local college band practices on Saturday mornings on campus, close to the unit. It has been nice to hang there with a cup of coffee listening to the band play.

Saturday is always a very nice day.

i would shop and bring my son to school but now it's summer and soon my son will be going to school closer to home. we live 45 mins from dialysis. so some days i go home and then come back. some days i visit my sister. and some days my mom watches our son and i go sit with him. and sometimes sneak off to go shopping or run errands. the whole gas thing is killing me though!
