Hello to all!  My name is Kristy and I have a mother in law who is on pd.  I love her to death, which is why I am trying to learn more about this disease.  She has had kidney failure for many years now but she has been on dialysis for about two.  She is a wonderful woman with such a loving heart and I hate to see her hurt the way she does.  I feel like I don't understand everything she is going threw and I don't think she tells me all of it, so I found it helpful to read this forum to see what ppl on dialysis are feeling.  It has been very helpful so far.
Thank you and I will keep all of you in my prayers!

 :waving; :waving; Hi Kristy,
We have a saying around here, "Knowledge is Power" - and learning more will help you and your MIL as well. I am also a caregiver so cannot ever really know what it is like for the patient, but I think the more I know the more I realize how complex and different every situation is, yet there is a connection through emotions that most patients share. Please keep reading and ask whenever you have a question. Welcome to the forum!

Hi Kristy and welcome to IHD.  Maybe you should look into being a living donor for your mother in law.  Just a thought.  If you love her and want to help her that would do it.

Keep reading and learning.

Hi Kristy.  Except for the last 2 years, I've spent my entire dialysis life on PD. I have no problem answering any questions that you may have, as I'm sure the majority of PD patients on this site would.  I do this as well for new patients in my unit who are on the fence about whether to stay on Hemo or go to PD.  That's the good thing about a site like this one.  There's a lot of support from patients, caregivers and professionals.  IF you have a question, all you really need to do is ask, and someone will most likely have an answer for you
