my name is paul.. i just turned (gulp) 60.. and i hate dialysis.. i live in toronto and do HD at a major downtown hospital.. MWF afts 4 hrs.. and i hate dialysis.. the hardest thing for me is the constant drain on time, the neverending battles to try to sleep, and the persistence of itches, twitches, and cramps that sabotage sleep.. i work nights, but i have a great job that is very accommodating to my condition.. i also have a partner that is waiting for me to 'get my life back... you all know that this "half-life" we live is a challenge... i fortunately do have a potential donor from my sister who has just completed the tests and biopsies (took over a year.. yuchh), so if we got the go ahead, it will then be a question of how long they take to ramp me up.. my kidneys failed suddenly about 5 yrs ago (a timely Dr who immediately put me on a form of chemo literally saved my life by a few weeks.. i was sick and off work for two years. then i did a year and a half of Pd.. problem was i just wasnt getting enough dialysis and life was crap.. i have been on HD for a year and a half... and yes ihate dialysis...moving quarters at the hospital for rennovations and leaving us without tv's was horribly brutal... hopefully that will be recified in a month or so...
thats my intro in a nutshell... and i must say that without a partner who is has patience and asks little of me, i dont know what i'd have done.. here's to one day getting the "naughty" back into our lives

Hi, Paul and welcome. Another Canadian joining the group. We'll have to start our own chapter! LOL
I'm also a newbie, joined here 3 days ago after stumbling on the site.
There's lots of folks here to talk to who "get it". Lots of info and experience here, too. Hope you enjoy your stay.

Hi Paul and welcome to IHD where we ALL hate dialysis. My hubby is a home-hemo patient after we went through PD and in-center hemo. I know just what you mean about the "half life" and waiting to get the naughty back into it! Thanks for the great intro and I'm looking forward to reading your posts.

It's great to see another Canadian join.
I've been a member since 2006 and live in Mississauga . ( part of Toronto since there is no real dividing line ) . I hope that the transplant goes through and things soon get back to normal. Please stay in touch.
