My day is Tuesday BUT...
«

I'm SO EXCITED... my donor (cousin- he ROCKS!) just flew in from California and we're scheduled for Tuesday.
BUT there's some issues that came up, and I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience with these...
1.) My blood pressure is 90/50... my transplant team says if we can't bring it up by Tuesday, the transplant's postponed (and probably off- I don't want my cousin to have to come 2000 miles again!) They said eat salt, use 1.5 pd fluid, and pray... any other ideas?
2.) My resting pulse is 120... any ideas to bring this down? (They aren't too worried about it, but I am)
3.) Fellow Ladies, I haven't had a period for the past year thanks to dialysis and kidney disease... guess what just started this morning! Any experience with this? They won't cancel, will they? (Surely not!)
Thanks in advanced for reading!

Yeah, have a bag of Cheetoes and maybe go watch a scary movie! Yikes! I hope you get this done.
I started my period "after" my transplant but not before. To me it means you are healthier than before.
Best of luck!

Break out the nacho chips!
I don't think anything is going to lower your heart rate until you can calm down, so try a few deep breaths, and just go with it.
No reason whatsoever for them to stop the surgery because of a period.

Sunday Morning Update (2 More Days...)
Blood pressure up to 140/90
(Never thought that would be a good thing
)
It seems a little too high to me, but that was the target they gave me last week- apparently it's easier to bring it down than up during surgery.
Pulse is down to 110... still high but I guess better.

Congratulations! I'm sure your BP will be up the morning of check in.
I don't think your period will be a problem. Not 100% sure on that, but they never asked me when I checked in. I did start a few days after and I had to wear this ridiculous mesh underware with a giant pad (HUGE! Bring your own pads with you) the remainder of my hospital stay and it was gross, but no big deal. I was told I couldn't use tampons after transplant for a while. I waited about 1.5 years before going back to tampons. Talk to your doctor about that.
Sounds like your on the track to transplant Tuesday! Good Luck!!! Let us know how it goes!!

I'm glad you got the BP up. I bet your pulse is high with the stress/worry about what is going to happen. I wouldn't worry so much about that but yeah try and keep calming thoughts and relaxing if you can.
Good Luck!!

Hey everyone! Here's an update...
The transplant went very well... I was able to bring my bp up and pulse down (the period wasn't an issue). I'm five days out now... very anemic, but other than that my awesome cousin and I are doing great!
Hopefully I will "escape" the hospital tomorrow and stay at a (nice!) hotel across the street from the hospital for a few days. Also, I was the one who was afraid to get a transplant due to FSGS- my risk was very high, and I was told that it would come back, it would hit hard and kill the kidney right away. It did not relapse yet- I guess I'm not out of the woods yet, but I'm feeling very hopeful considering what my doctor's predictions were.
Thank you for the support- this is the best site on the Web! I honestly don't know if I would have taken this step if it weren't for you guys' support. Thank you!

Wow Congrats. I am happy for you. I am also jealous that you went a year without a peroid! UGH! I wish I could do the same! Been on dialysis for 2.5 years and have not missed a single one!
