PD surgery

I got a call today...well my wife did because I was at work, but it looks like I am scheduled for my PD cath to be placed on the 11th of June. I didn't get to ask a very important question while i was getting my eval hopefuly some one hear can tell me, will I be in and out of the hospital? it doesn't seem like a big surgery just a couple of holes and and a scope...I would hate to be in there for more than a day or two given my last cath placement if you know what I mean.

pd op should be out patient. You shouldn't be there more than 5 hours total. I think the actually surgery only takes about 30 minuets.

Good luck with the surgery!  I know it will go just fine.  I had mine on a Friday and was back to work by Tuesday.

Yup, you should be in and out in just a few hours.  You may find it difficult to drive for a few days, depending on your toleration of pain, which is mild.  Best of luck to you!

When I got my PD cath in, it was totally outpatient in a surgery center - in and out in 3 or 4 hours, total. When I had to get it replaced a month later, it was a bit worse, and the uremia and drugs did a number on me and they kept me overnight.

Wow, my Blokey was in for two nights (one night before, one night after) when he had his first PD catheter placed.  However, we are in the UK so maybe things are different here.  Or, he's just 'special'. 

 

He managed to drive himself home and went back to work almost immediately.

Check this bullshit out. i guess when i went to get my eval for PD the doctor i saw wasn't the one who was going to do it, in fact the dude wasn't even a surgeon. Turns out the real Doctor was on vacation now they have to reschedule so I don't know when I am going to get my PD tube put in. i kind of thought it was funny after I looked back on the situation, I wonder if I was talking to the janito,r he was wearing scrubs and had a stethescope so I don't know.

Allright everyone got there head and arse wierd together this week and I am going to have my PD cath surgery next friday.

had my surgery last Friday, everything went well. It was nothing like I expected. The hospital was Saint Agnes in Fresno and it was 1st class for me all the way from the minute I arrived to the minute I left, I didn't have to wait for anything. I was real glad they put me to sleep, the only thing I remember was looking up at the lights in the o.r. than taking a little nap and when i woke up I was in a totally different room with a new little tube sticking out my belly. One thing that sucks is that the pain medication they gave me makes me puke, so I rode out the soreness which was not bad at all.

Did my first training session yesterday and it was went smooth, and I have the best exit site my PD nurse has ever seen, so she brings everyone in to have a look and marvel at it, and I feel like a zoo attraction for five minutes. They filled me up with a 2.5 bag and drained it I felt some discomfort when it was done draining but they say I will get used to it....I will confess that 10 seconds of discomfort is way worth trading for three and a half hours of hemo fighting off cramps and the headache I get afterwards.

The best exit site they've ever seen is an impressive thing to have.  Can't ask for better than that, especially if a top notch exit site means you'll have smooth sailing with the PD.

Thanks for the support, I hope PD works for me too as I can not face my old nemisis "needles" any more.

Now that u have a good exit. Make sure you follow the procedure to keep it clean and not getting infected. e.g. dont let the exit be moisted with water or else it will attract bacteria.
