Well after a year of me being on dialysis, and our center using this for a long time now, my neph suddenly says that clear tegaderm dressing is the worst dressing for a catheter, he claims that it attracts moisture easier, but I like it because it's the only dressing that sticks to me.
I love my neph but I totally disagree with this, and the fact that he has not said anything about it in the past.

They used to use Tegaderm on me when I was on hemo, but I asked for something else as it was too hard to remove and left scars on me.  They switched me to an Island Dressing.  They also used Tegaderm on me in the hospital for my PD catheter, until I finally started going "nekkid".  No infections caused by germs yet (6 years and counting)!

A giant chunk of tegaderm is what they put over my donor site for my skin graft.  The docs told me it was fine to shower with it uncovered, and it stayed in place for a month, so they sure don't agree with your doc!

Yeah even when they put catheters in over here, that's what they put on them!
