Goofynina and Epoman - Gone But Not Forgotten

WWW
« on: January 31, 2009, 06:28:42 PM »

My sister received the second highest honour a citizen can receive in my country in the New Year Honours.  If she had received the highest, she would now be Dame.  As it is, she is now to be referred to as the Honourable Maizie Barker-Welch.  Here are some picts I got from home.
Picture 1 - Maizie with the Governor-General
Picture 2 - With the Prime Minister, David Thompson and the Governor General, Sir Clifford Husbands
Picture 3 - L to R - Her oldest son Dr. Pedro Welch, Tanja (granddaughter), Yolande daughter (and mother of Tanja) Sonja daughter
                           Maizie, and my sister Grace Muriel.
(BTW, Maizie is 81 years old. unbelievable!)

Thank you for all your lovely expressions.  I am very proud of my big sister.  She was a teacher, a haure couture dressmaker, an actress in a radio drama, a community activist, a representative in our parliament (the only woman in that session), a senator.  She is fluent in French and Spanish, and at one time was the President of the OAS Commission for Women.  She has visited every continent except Antarctica (and says you never know,where that is concerned!)  She has a green thumb.  You should see her orchard and vegetable and herb gardens.  My cousin just told me she had strawberries my sister grew!

As some of yoiu know, I went home (to Barbados) in February to see about the pension I will be getting from my government. Can you imagine that the very weekend I was there, there was a write-up about my sister concerning her sense of style, calling her a fashion icon.  She is now 82 years old.  She is making that just a number!  Here are the scans of the newspaper. These picts were all taken in February.

What a beautiful lady she is.  82...she doesn't look like a number 82 to me at all.   Good on her for refusing to give in to a number!

Lord, I want to look like Mazie!!!!  She is incredible.  But, so is our Bajanne.  Someone asked me once what Bajanne looked like and I said an island Queen -- regal, full of grace.    :cuddle;
