Hello buddies ,

I am a 29 yrs old guy from India.

2000 Aug - During the 3rd yr of my engineering degree, on independence day, i was vomitting  and the diagnosis said high BP and contracted kidneys.(ESRD)

2000 Sep - I was on HD for two weeks and had a transplant of my moms kidney.

After the surgery, there was a fluid collection in abdomen and an external drainage was set and aspirated out daily for couple of weeks.

2003 Jun - Continued & completed my degree .

2003 oct - elevated Creatinine levels and admitted in Christian Medical College

Went through some painful tests (bone marrow test for cancer, endoscopy test, etc) and I was on HD again.

Fought with surgeons for PD option  which was not recommended as i was expecting the next transplant.

2003 Nov - Happily was on PD for around 6 months in home

2004 Apr - Had the second transplant of my cousin sisters kidney.

2005 May - Hunted for a job and settled as a QA engineer for the last 5 yrs.

2007-2008 - Worked in Canada for an yr and felt the place is great to live with very less chances of infection compared to a developing nation like India. (I feel any first rated country would be a good choice to live longer with the transplanted kidney)

Tried to get a PR (permanent residency) in Canada and got rejected due to medical inadmissibility (excessive demand for medical services)

2008 - Fallen love with a gal in a job interview  Married her after explaining everything

2009 - Blessed with a baby gal  a true gift from GOD

2010 Apr12- Going to celebrate my 6th successful yr after 2nd transplant

  Sathya and thanks for your intro.  I'm in Toronto Canada and, like you, very much appreciate this country.  Where in Canada did you live?  And where are you living now.  I traveled around India and Southeast Asia for several months way back in 1975, before going on D, and I too am now on my second transplant.

I was in Markham and working with ACNielsen company which is just opposite to the AMEX office in mcnabb st.

really nice to hear that u r from canada. I am working in India now. hope will get a chance to work in canada again through my current company.

do you mind if i ask you how did u manage 20 yrs after the first transplant? just wanted to get some real good advises from experienced people.

Also its very rare to see people use HD self care unit here. would appreciate if you could throw some light on it.

Hello Monrein, I am sorry to bother you again.... this question is still striving for an answer in my mind...what could be the reason to remove the first transplanted kidney?

No problem with questions sathya.  We always hope that other people can find our experiences useful to their own circumstances.  My kidneys failed when I was 26 and I did 5 years of hemo at that time, mostly at home but also some in center.  My first transplant was from a cadaver kidney, perfect match and it lasted 23 years with no troubles at all.  I try really hard to look after myself by eating healthy food, very little salt, no fast foods, hardly any processed food in packages, not too much red meat, lots of whole grains and fruits and vegetables,  very little white flour or white rice, not too much sugar, lots of water, only one cup of coffee daily (mostly decaffeinated) and some tea, no alcohol really, no smoking cigarettes AND I exercise as much as I can.  I go to a gym and I do cardio exercise and weight lifting also.  Yoga is good too but now I just do Pilates one time a week.

When the transplant failed (the result of toxicity from such a long time on Cyclosporine) I asked to go to a self care clinic near my house since I don't like anyone to do my needles except me.  That way I can take the best care of my fistula and also not feel so nervous about the needles.  Only one other person there was doing their needles but then two other people who saw me doing it and watched me from the start, began to do it themselves too.

They weren't planning to remove the first transplant but about a month after the new one I started having fevers and pain over the old transplant.  They felt that it was not getting enough blood supply or something and so decided to take it out and hope that the problem would resolve itself..and it did.  The new transplant has worked great right from the start and I feel very lucky...it is from my brother's wife.

  So far i didnt follow any best practices. just living by doing whatever i wanna do.
Now i am concerned after my marriage. Thank you so much monrein. This would really help for me to plan a longer life.
Never heard about or Saw you kind of people(all people here) in my life.  Appreciate your strong & positive mind in doing things by self and live life in the right way. Think its time to learn lot of things from you people.
