For more than 50 years it grew.  In its heyday it reached the bottom of my derriere and was lush and full.  Then came 6 months of hemo.  When hemo was over and I returned to PD,  it only reached the middle of my back and was scrawny and thin.  I guess I could have put up with that, but last week I received an invitation to my son's wedding.  "Oh, no," thought I, "wedding pictures."  I had to make a tough decision, one I swore over 50 years ago I was never going to do.  (sigh)  Once the decision was made, though, I couldn't wait to move forward.  Yesterday I gathered up my courage, went to the nearest one and said, "Make it look like Julie Andrews."  She said, "Who?"  I sighed and thought to myself, "A pox on all 20 year olds."  Well, it doesn't quite look Julie (next time I'll bring pictures), but it's done.  Once I get one, a new pic will be posted.

So saying, will you all please join me in a minute of silence for my hair, which is lying somewhere on Fantastic Sam's floor.

Yes, I remember the day I had my long locks cut -- it took me awhile to identify with the face in the mirror.    I am guessing you can't wear one of your 16 hats to your son's wedding!   Post pictures so we can all see Julie's look alike      When is the wedding?   Congratulations on the upcoming wedding and for mustering the courage to change the "do"!!

Ah, yes, I know that grief all too well, and I mourn with you.  I lost thick, wavy hair that reached to the middle of my back due to transplant complications.  I gave up and cut it short, short, short.  With enough surf spray and fiddling with a hair dryer and round brush, it has now grown back enough that I no longer am noticeably bald, but the former texture and thickness is a distant memory.  When I wake in the morning and look in the mirror, what used to be a long, tousled, interesting mess is now a short, puffy dandelion fluff.

Everyone around me graciously tells me it looks fine, fine, fine.  Lovely.  But it used to be a feature that I really liked about myself, and "fine" just isn't that easy to accept as a replacement for something that was such a large part of what made me feel feminine.

Idiot 20 year old! Julie Andrews has been in more than one film and on Broadway. If I remember correctly, she has written children's books.

My hair has lost its thickness and it crazy half the time.   I mourn your hair. I hope it was a good haircut.

I'll bet you look beautiful with your new hair cut.
I went through two seperate Julie Andrews periods in the last 15 years.
Now it's shoulder length, but I am dreaming of those Julie Andrews days lately. The first time I had it cut short on a whim and hid in the bathroom all day until my husband begged me to come out and eat dinner with the family. The 2nd time I cut it short because of chemo.
Both times I ended up really liking it. Hope you like it too.

i used to be able to sit on mine, and it was always thick enough to cover 4 or 5 heads. it's still very thick but i know it's much, much thinner than it use to be. i keep it fairly short now because since the onset of dialysis it has been rather dry and somewhat like straw. however i tried a new shampoo yesterday and it actually seems like there's some life in it afterall. i know just how you feel. just don't think about it and enjoy your son's wedding.  here's a toast to the hair.

I used to have a lush full beard. Eventually I cut it down so that it looked neat. Now it's grey and not so dominating. At least, I can avoid having to trim it more often than once a fortnight.

Actually, folks, I got to thinking.  You never have seen me with long hair cuz I always pulled it back and anchored it at the nape of my neck.  All you've ever seen is my hats!  I probably won't get any pics of me until the wedding.
