Hi All - I know it's been a super long time since I posted. I do try to keep updated on Facebook and see many of you there.
Well, it's been 4 months since Rob's transplant and his creatinine is at 1.0!!!!
It has actually been at 1.0 for a couple of months now, how cool is that! Due to his size (slightly overweight) his Dr.'s didn't think he would get below 2.0. He proved them wrong! His steroid free regimen is working out nicely and hopefully in a couple of months he can come off of his magnesium, antibiotics and phosporus pills.
Rob was back to work in 2 months and is feeling amazing! He did have a slight setback though. He cut his thumb on his left hand, where his fistulas are and it got really infected in 3 days. They had him on some heavy duty antibiotics to kill the infection, since as a diabetic and transplant patient his body wasn't fighting it very well. The infection healed but his thumb became numb and he couldn't work with it. He had his upper fistula shut off because they thought not enough blood flow was getting to his hand. 2 weeks ago he had a fistula gram done on his lower fistula and it turns out it isn't a blood flow. He had to have this special medicine because the dye from the fistula gram can kill the kidney. He also has to have a month of regular blood tests to see if the kidney was affected. It pisses me off that he had to have an unecessary fistula gram done and the hand surgeon says that it's fine, he just needs to use it more and the callous on the thumb is impairing his feeling.
So today he went back to work after being off 1 1/2 months for the thumb issue.
Rob is feeling great, has all of his energy back and is looking forward to coaching our sons team again this year, but with TONS more energy! We even booked a cruise for July, woohoo! I can't tell you how great it is to have my husband back! It's so nice not to be stuck to the Nxstage machine 5 nights a week and to not see him so tired and drawn. Hopefully in a year or so Rob can get his pancreas transplant
Rob's donor George is doing fanstastic, what an incredible man! I am so happy that we get to see him often as his parents live not too far from us. I encourage everyone to get on the matchingdonors.com website and sign up. It was what saved Rob's life and we have a forever friend.
