If your visit to the dentist is on an emergency basis and he intends to stabilize you until the tooth can be fixed then he's probably going to give you antibiotics.  I can't tell you what to do but if there is some amoxicillin around the house then...

How about instead of guessing which antibiotic would be appropriate, just call your neph, tell them you need to go to the dentist, and let them decide if antibiotics are called for?

I feel for you with your tooth.  :cuddle;

I've been numbing mine for six months already with that stuff you get at the drug store (oral jel) it comes and goes but eventually I'll have to be a man and get it fixed.

Good Luck Goofynina.

I take antibiotics because of a heart murmur I have.  I have no idea if every renal patient has to have antibiotics.  Maybe a poll on this? I saw the dentist today and the hygienist was very please with everything. I now have dental clearance for transplant, just have to get the paper work to the dentist, then over to Loma Linda.  Hot damn!

Are you my Secret Santa??

BTW my Neph told me that dialysis patients should be pre-medicated before seeing a dentist even to get you teeth cleaned.  There is a lot of bacteria in the mouth and your blood supply is right there.  So when they are cleaning and jabbing it is best to be on an antibiotic.  My Rx is 4 tablets of 500mg of Amoxicillin one hour prior to dental appointment.
