Question regarding Fistula

Thanks for the advice on the EMLA cream.  So, with the EMLA cream do you get the lidocain injections too??  Probably a dumb question.  But, I don't want to feel the big needle.

They've been using the buttonhole technique from the very beginning on me. At first they were telling me about all the benefits of this new technique, but I hardly listened to them because of the shock of learning about my new dialysis lifestyle. But now, almost two years later, my arm is still 100% flat and I'm very grateful for that. It makes dialysis more bearable in a way. The head nurse at my unit actually travels around the world to teach the buttonhole technique and sometimes foreign nurses come and stick us (yeah, I know, born to be guinea pigs...) so they see how it's done.

No such thing as a dumb question!  No, with EMLA there is no need for Lidocaine.  Used correctly, it should completely (or at least mostly) numb the skin.  My patients who used it were happy with EMLA.
