Sexual assault in hospital

A good friend was recently hospitaliized with non kidney related issues. A male contract (traveling) nurse entered her room under the guise of needing to replace EKG sensors on her chest. I won't go into detail but some very inappropriate things happened in that room. My friend stopped this guy and made alot of noise about it. Eventually law enforcement was called but surprisingly all they did to the nurse was to send him home early that day. When my friend's husband became involved in this he asked the hospital how to go about dealing with the situation. If you can believe this they referred him to the hospital's risk managment office. Their first concern was to keep the matter quiet. This is a hospital that has a history of problems and a reputation that matches. It is really sad to see sick patients becoming prey for creeps that are running around a hospital as employees. This happened just a few days ago...where this is going from here is not known yet. The hospital might be in big trouble.

Tell the couple that if they don't mind dealing with the media, get a copy of the police report and send it to the local newspaper and TV stations.

I don't think thats going to happen. She has children, a large family, and many friends. I don't think they want this made public at least with their names known. It will be probably be handled in a way that those responsible are brought to justice but without embarrassing the victim or her family.

I've often wondered about the "traveling" nurses. Do they have something to hide?
When I had my transplant I was exposed to chicken pox. I was sent to a disease specialist for some lab work to see if I had ever had the chicken pox (my mother couldn't remember me ever having them). As I was in the little exam room an intern came in to check me over. He then said he needed to do a breast exam. I let him (dah). I felt a little uncomfortable. Then he wanted to do a pelvic exam and I put the breaks on! Why the hell would he need to do a pelvic exam. He was the intern (student). I think I was had!!

One of the dirty little secrets about training hospitals - they count us all as guinea pigs to train the interns on.
When you sign the consent form for surgical procedures, you've also signed up for all kinds of "training" exams by the interns while you are still out cold in post op.

The hospital where I worked fired two nurses for signing out narcotics that were to be given to patients. They withheld them & pocketed the drugs instead. No charges were filed they were just let go, no police record exists.
Hospitals sweep problems under the rug by getting rid of offenders. So now they are free to get another hospital job & prey again just like the sex offender in this thread.
Anything short of murder is let slip by. They just don't want to get involved.
A hospital can be a very dangerous place.
Yes, patients are guinea pigs & often they don't even know it. When in nurses training I learned to start IV's on unconcious patients in the recovery room.
