I'm sorting mail that arrived during the 3 and half months that I was gone.  I just found the hospital bill for my transplant and the 2 month hospital stay.  We need a fainting smiley!

Total Hospital Charges --- $460,591.81

Among other interesting details....

Daily room charges - $3000 a day for the therapy floor.  $2215 for the regular care rooms. $3541 for ICU.
Surgical supplies - $34,141
Laboratory - $43,780
Pharmacy - $73,529.98
Organ Acquisition - $108,000

Thank heavens for insurance!

You are worth every penny and then some. Wow, those bills are amazing. Makes you wonder how long the hospital has been paid for, and all of the machines, etc. Of course the money for the staff goes on but still, it still makes you wonder. Or it does me.

Yeah, the charge for "organ acquisition" amazed me.  It's not like they paid for it, after all.  I realize it costs for a surgeon to remove the organs, and there are transportation costs and tests to run to ensure the health status - but $108,000 seems extreme!
