Thank you KitKatz for making me feel normal! I used to get thirsty on hemo (I'm on PD now) and I couldn't drink anything at all as they could never pull enough fluid off of me without me crashing! It sucked! And not on ice cubes!
All I could do is get ice cold water and swish it around my mouth and spit it back out. Believe it or not - it helped me.
I lived in VA for awhile and the humidity was awful. But if you keep cool with air conditioning or whatever, it seems like you don't get so thirsty. Just another theory.
But now us lucky ones in California are getting cooler weather! Thank goodness!
Hope you are doing better now kitkatz.
And I hope you feel better that you made me feel normal. I get fed up a lot and now I don't feel like a big weenie! (Am I allowed to say that?)

Thanks for this thread...I've been so thirsty again since I'm back in center for hemo D...I could scream from the thirst...they are not giving me sodium..it just seems to be the difference in mixture..home hemo was lactaid and I was dehydrated all the time..I was never thirsty..had to force myself to drink but in center I want to be carrying a gallon of whatever with me all the time..I am almost doubling my intake a day..so much for meaasuiring...I measure it all...I think I will try the in the mouth, swish and spit it out...see if that will help...I don't know what else to do, have tried all the others with no luck..I'm not hungry since in hospital so have to force that too.........screammmmmmmmmmmm.....

Hey G-Ma. This is going to sound a little strange but knowing my dialysis is starting soon I decided to have fluid restrictions for a week just to see how I would cope. I didn't eat as much salt but normally I drink a lot of water. What I did was put a can of Evian spray in the fridge and every time I felt thirsty I would go to the fridge and spray the Evian on my face as well as in my mouth. It comes out in a mist but it seemed to take the thirst away every time. It seemed to work by hydrating your face as well as your mouth. I feel the cold terribly so it is not a torturous thing to do. As I said it comes out in a fine mist so when you spray it in your mouth you are not taking in much water but you feel so much better. If you can't get Evian in a spray over there let me know and I will send some over to you. Worth a try maybe. x

Bet you could get a regular spray bottle and do the same thing. Sounds like a good idea. I know that splashing water on my face can help - I've done that before.
If you are running some kind of forced air heat in your house, don't forget to run a humidifier. I think I get thirsty faster when I'm breathing really dry air.

You can buy the can from the chemist. It isn't a cheap alternative and Jbeany is probably right about doing it with a spray bottle. xx

freezing lemonade into little ice cubes and letting them melt in your mouth is not bad
but water is the best ever
I never got the frozen grape idea
when I bite into a grape all that wonderful juice comes out --

Really, folks, I am sure that Kitkatz is more than well aware of these things. She never complains, but I guess every body has to once in awhile. However, since this is a bumped up thread, she has adjusted to ( or tolerates better ) dialysis now that she is on Nocturnal Hemo. She is usually a very sweet, and pretty woman. Just my humble opinion.

Good Idea Zach....... Bring up older threads on subjects that could be beneficial to others on here who are experiencing the same problems.... Its fun to read older threads and see how others have had questions and dealing with there problems.....
This to me is why IHD is so great.....there is so much information here ......( by reading older post) that can deal with almost every problem...
New People........ Spend some time researching older post with specific topics...... most of your questions can be answered.....if Not....
Ask Zach........
Thx Zach
